It is quite clear from the success of games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate that gamers love crossover titles. For the first time, they can finally answer the question of who would win in a fight between Minecraft Steve and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7. Other companies have sought to recreate the success of Super Smash Bros. with their own platform fighters combining characters from a multitude of different IPs. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl combined multiple cartoon characters from the TV network, and now MultiVersus looks to make a load of Warner Bros. characters duke it out.

Hype for MultiVersus has been building ever since it was first unveiled back in 2021. Even being officially revealed less than a year ago, MultiVersus has since shown off gameplay, new characters added to its already expansive roster, and plans an open beta launch in July. While there hasn't been an official date set for when MultiVersus' beta will release to fans, the game's director seemingly has big plans for it.

Tony Huynh, MultiVersus' director, recently was asked whether the open beta would be a timed test, or if it would last until the official release of the final game. Huynh since said that the open beta will hopefully be permanent, unless the team working on MultiVersus finds some "really awful bugs." This means that the open beta of MultiVersus will essentially launch the game, almost in a demo format with less initial content. But, things like new characters, maps, and more are likely to be added over time.

As MultiVersus hasn't been given a solid final release date, fans will be glad to know that what they're getting in July will be somewhat near to the final product. Already, there has been a closed, timed alpha for MultiVersus, so it does make sense that the beta would be an evolution of that, rather than basically be another version of the other test. Alongside giving players a soft launch, the open beta is also likely to include the monetization elements of MultiVersus, something that has been revealed to be in the game but hasn't been heavily discussed by the developers.

Already, it seems like MultiVersus will have quite a lot of content when the open beta drops. 16 characters are currently available for the game, including some fan-favorites like Superman and Ultra Instinct Shaggy. From the alpha as well, many fans are already aware of a multitude of characters coming to MultiVersus. Leaks have revealed that Rick from Rick and Morty, LeBron James, and Godzilla will be coming to the game in some form.

MultiVersus is expected to launch in 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
