During a Disney earning's call, Disney CEO Bob Chapek confirmed that Disney's highly-anticipated live action Mulan remake will be available for streaming on Disney+ on September 4th for a separate $29.99. This comes on the heels of several reports over the past few months confirming the film would continue to be delayed.

Mulan has been facing delays ever since the original projected launch of March 27th was swiftly undone as the COVID-19 pandemic spread. At the time, the film was optimistically pushed back to July 24th, and still to be in theaters. Naturally, things hadn't gotten much better by that time, and another delay was imposed, this time setting the release for August 21st, before delaying once again "indefinitely" a month later. Now, once again, the day has changed, this time to September 4th. But there's reason to believe this one might stick.

Disney seemingly realized that the film could either release on their Disney+ streaming service or not at all. However, this isn't meant to be a new trend for the company, as noted by Chapek, who said “We’re looking at Mulan as a one-off… as opposed to saying there is a new business model we’re looking at." It seems they simply want to do what's financially best for each film given the circumstances. Mulan is also set to release in certain theaters, depending on which ones are open and available, though no specifics were given.

The more controversial side of the impending premiere includes the film's $29.99 price tag. This is presumably on top of the subscription fee itself. No further information on pricing has been given as of now, but it seems that non-subscribers may have to pay for a month of Disney+ on top of the movie's own flat price. It's also unclear whether this constitutes a rental or a purchase, and how many screens can share the film. During the call, Chapek said he saw the idea of putting Mulan on the service without an extra fee as "free content." It's unsure what he means, considering Disney+ is not a free service, but no other info has been revealed thus far.

Once again, Mulan releases on Disney+ on September 4th for $29.99.
