Kamala Khan will be the next character to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it seems like fans will not have to wait too long for her appearance as Ms. Marvel, the upcoming Disney Plus series, has completed shooting. With most of the shoot done earlier in Georgia, USA, the final leg was wrapped up in Thailand, under the leadership of Oscar-winning director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Ms. Marvel will be introducing the first Muslim Pakistani-American hero into the MCU, with the teenager being played by Pakistani-Canadian actor Iman Vellani in her on-screen debut. It is another attempt at Marvel’s push for more diversity in the MCU, which is in line with Stan Lee’s vision.

Earlier this month, a few images from the sets of Ms. Marvel that showed Vellani in her superhero avatar went viral on social media. Dressed in what appears to be the character’s costume, Vellani was spotted on set with her co-star Rish Shah, who will be seen playing the role of Kamran, who possesses his own special abilities. The teenager’s outfit was very similar to the character’s look from the comics, complete with a lightning bolt on a blue tunic and gold bangles on her left wrist, which are the compartment bracelets from the comics.

As is the case with all Marvel projects, the plot for Ms. Marvel is being kept under wraps, with no details on the series being released thus far. The project was first announced by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige back in 2019 at the D23 Event. It has previously been confirmed that Vellani’s Ms. Marvel will join the Captain Marvel sequel along with Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau, who was last seen in Disney Plus’ WandaVision. While production was relocated to Thailand recently, only two of the six episodes of the series were shot in the country. This hints at a major international adventure for the Muslim teen hero.

Khan first appeared in the comics in 2013. She was Marvel’s first Muslim character to have her own comic book series. After discovering her superpowers, with the comics casting her as a younger version of Captain Marvel, Khan sets off on a journey to understand her true strength while learning about the importance of her relationships. A summarized synopsis released for the show confirms that Ms. Marvel's arc will be the main subject of the Disney Plus show. A teaser trailer was released by Marvel in December 2020 that portrays Khan as a normal teenager being raised in New Jersey. Official images of her superhero outfit have not been released so far.

With shooting complete, it remains to be seen when the series will arrive on the streaming platform. The next Marvel show on Disney Plus' release calendar is Tom Hiddleston's Loki, arriving on June 9, making it the third MCU series to arrive this year. It shouldn’t be long before Ms. Marvel enters the MCU, with the six-episode series now in the post-production phase.

Ms. Marvel is expected to premiere on Disney Plus in late 2021.
