Ms. Marvel is expected to make her MCU debut next year when the character's solo series will presumably premiere on Disney Plus. Of course, Marvel Studios projects often make changes to the characters and storylines from the comics, and new Ms. Marvel promo art seems to confirm this will be the case for Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan.

A relatively new character to the Marvel Comics scene, Ms. Marvel is the superhero alter-ego of Kamala Khan, a Pakistani American teenager from New Jersey who discovers that she is inhuman. Bestowed with shapeshifting abilities, Khan takes on the Ms. Marvel mantle from her hero Carol Danvers, who had gone on to become Captain Marvel.

In the comics, Ms. Marvel's shapeshifting, elasticity, and size alteration powers are a natural ability from her inhuman genes. However, rumors suggested the Ms. Marvel series would alter the heroine's powers by granting her the ability to "embiggen" herself through the Nega-Bands she wears around her wrists, similar to how Green Lantern members use a ring. Now, promotional art from Pyramid International shows Ms. Marvel using some kind of energy force to create an oversized fist, all but confirming the MCU version of the character's powers will stem from artificial constructs. The promotional art also gives fans a new glimpse at the costume Vellani will wear in the Disney Plus series, which will considerably more accurate than her power set.

Marvel Studios already has big plans for Vellani's Kamala Khan after her debut in the Ms. Marvel series. The actor is slated to appear in The Marvels opposite Brie Larson as Carol Danvers and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. Like Vellani, Parris first joined the MCU in a Disney Plus series, WandaVision, before making the leap to the feature film side. Plot details for The Marvels are currently unknown, though the title alone leaves little doubt that the film will be a superhero team-up story involving the three heroes.

There are several reasons why Marvel Studios may have changed Kamala Khan's powers for the Ms. Marvel series. Perhaps the special effects for skin and body stretching abilities proved to be far too costly for a television series budget, even for Marvel Studios.

Whatever the reason may be, most fans will likely be satisfied if Marvel Studios captures the essence of Ms. Marvel more than anything else. After all, there's much more to Kamala Khan that made her popular to begin with than just her powers.

Ms. Marvel is expected to premiere in 2022 on Disney Plus.
