With age comes wisdom. As a person gets older, they presumably grow wiser with their life experiences. Certain fictional individuals, such as the characters featured on this list, embody that to the extreme.

The big screen has produced countless characters with lifespans lasting many millennia. With that age comes several larger-than-life qualities. These range from omnipotence to delusions of grandeur, often stemming from the very advantage that enables their long lives. As a result, these characters seem a cut above mortal beings whenever they're onscreen.

7 Genie - Aladdin

Genie in Aladdin

Part of Disney's pantheon of magical beings, it stands to reason that the Genie would be old. Viewers get a hint of this with his opening line, "10,000 years will give you such a crick in the neck." That sounds like a lot, but he plays it off as a joke. It's just a minor annoyance in the grand scheme of things. Part of that probably comes from his unwilling home.

Genie has spent most of his life trapped in a lamp, only occasionally surfacing to grant wishes. He implies that he's had many masters, with a large gap between each one. Though this doesn't narrow down his age, it does indicate that the Genie is far older than 10,000 years.

6 Galadriel - The Lord Of The Rings

Galadriel in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings works have several Elf characters, many of whom have been around for centuries. That's not surprising since they're immortal (unless someone cuts them down in battle).

The oldest among them is Galadriel, the mystical queen of Lothlorien. Her unnerving gravitas shows that she's clearly seen more than any other character. Of course, book readers know that, as she's been active since the First Age of Middle-earth. This means she's existed for millennia, experiencing centuries of peace, war, and strife in her lifetime. Even the events of these gargantuan films are but a blink in Galadriel's eye.

5 Apocalypse - X-Men: Apocalypse

Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse

This X-Men film reveals the X-gene stretches back further than anyone thought possible. Fans learn the first mutant was a man named En Sabah Nur, who menaced Ancient Egypt as "Apocalypse." He's lain dormant in suspended animation until the modern era, but that's not the only secret to his age.

Apocalypse's immortality also lies in his ability. He can transfer his essence into younger vessels, adding their powers to his own. He could have done this numerous times prior to the movie's events. That definitely seems to be the case; people have known him as "Rah," "Krishna," "Yahweh," and other deities. A guy doesn't get that kind of reputation in just one lifetime.

4 Santa Claus - Various

Santa in The Santa Clause, Miracle on 34th Street, and Fatman

Countless versions of Santa have shown up onscreen. Most of these portrayals paint him as a jolly saint with immortality and an endless desire to bring joy to the world. While these rarely go into the specifics of this, he definitely needs that ageless quality.

Saint Nick has delivered presents for all of human history. That's three or four millennia, at least. It's a job requiring immense endurance. Not only has Santa survived that long, but he's embarked on the same global delivery journey every year. People love him for that, and deservedly so.

3 God - Bruce Almighty & Evan Almighty

God in Bruce Almighty

Any deity would be old; especially the one touted as the Lord of everything. God created the universe, the Earth, and all its creatures. Considering how far back the cosmos stretches, this puts him at millions of years old.

Even taking the religious subtext out of it, the movie version has all the qualities one would expect from the Father of existence, He can walk on water, appear out of thin air, morph reality, and tout unparalleled knowledge of seemingly everything around him. In essence, he's perfectly convincing as an omnipotent, all-powerful being.

2 Asgardians - The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Thor, Odin, and Loki in Thor

Though Marvel's versions of Thor and his fellow Asgard denizens don't see themselves as gods, they do live longer than most beings. Loki states that they last for several thousand years. Viewers might think this is one of his many mischievous lies, but it tracks with how the Asgardians have previously interacted with humans.

Thor's conversations with his fellow warriors reveal they've journeyed to Earth in times past. Flexing their magical powers caused the Norse mortals to worship them as gods, meaning they've lived at least several hundred years already. Their actual lifespan is likely more, given their reputation in the larger universe. Residents of other realms and planets seem to recognize them, possibly due to the great battles fought by Odin and his forefathers. A culture doesn't leave such a widespread impact overnight.

1 Aslan - The Chronicles Of Narnia

Lucy and Aslan in The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader

While not exactly a god, Aslan is C.S. Lewis's interpretation of the biblical Lord. The mythical lion created Narnia and subtly guided all the events therein. That's no small amount of time. Several hundred years pass between each entry, yet Aslan remains ageless. That's only the tip of the iceberg, however.

The enigmatic figure has also created several other worlds, all comparable in longevity to Narnia. These all ultimately imitate his original home: the mysterious land known simply as "Aslan's Country." This is where he oversaw life in ancient times. Take the longest cycle of planetary existence, and Aslan has witnessed it many times over.
