When a former Ubisoft exec says "Sony is about to make the Wii obsolete" it definitely raises a few questions on the potential of the PlayStation Move.

A question that has been on the minds of gamers and developers alike is whether or not a PlayStation motion controller entering the current console generation this late in the game can come anywhere close to catching up to the already monstrous sales the Nintendo Wii can lay claim to? One would think not. However, if you look at the fact that apparently a lot of the big developers are already jumping ship, including a huge Wii supporter like Ubisoft, you really have to give Move some respect, but is that enough?

Wii sales aside, the Move has one huge obstacle to overcome and that is price, one of the Wii's biggest selling points. When the casual gamer is looking for a system they don't care about how great the games look or the latest innovation, they just want to have some fun and that person will always go for lower cost.

When people think that Move will be a Wii killer, frankly, I think they're wrong. What Move will do is bring motion control to the core gamer, the gamer that liked the idea of motion control but was disappointed with the lack of 1:1 from the Wii. Yes, this will take a certain amount of revenue away from Nintendo and it will certainly make things much more difficult on Nintendo when they make the move to Wii2, but for right now, the Wii is fine as far as I'm concerned.

Let's call a spade a spade. The Wii is all about fitness games, kids games and mini-game compilations, with the occasional core game mixed in so Nintendo can say they still makes games for us. PlayStation Move is not going to take that away from the Wii, in fact I would say Sony hopes those sort of games stay right where they are.

Is Move the Wii killer? No. Is Move a great step for Sony and will they steal some of Nintendo's monopoly? Absolutely.

I just hope that Sony and the many developers who will be creating games for the Move never force us to use motion control. I believe it has it's place but is by no means a controller replacement.

Do you think Move will be the Wii killer?
