TaleWorlds Entertainment's Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord began its development in 2012, but Bannerlord just released in Early Access this March. This latest entry in a series of medieval strategy ARPGs that first came onto the scene in 2008 has been well received by players, with the game at an aggregate "Very Positive" rating on Steam based on over 100,000 reviews as of this writing. Now, players will be able to get even more out of the title thanks to its beta modding tools.

Mount & Blade 2 first showed off its modding tools in August as part of the game's second major development update, and those tools were officially released on October 1. The announcement post on Steam thanks players in the modding community for showing their support by testing the beta tools, and says, "We are just happy to be involved and to be able to support these kinds of efforts."

Currently available tools come in two categories: scene and resource editing. Modders will have easier access to do things like import new terrains, place entities, and edit paths; as well as create new textures, cloths, atmospheres, particles, and model skeletons in Mount & Blade 2 thanks to these tools. The developers also released a hour-long workshop video to show off how the system works.

Like many games available on PC, including examples like The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim and more recent titles like Crusader Kings 3, the Mount & Blade series has thrived in-part because of the longevity its modding community fosters. Mount & Blade: Warband had many, often complex, mods for players to use, and it's nice to see the developer encourage its fans to engage with the game in as many ways as possible.

Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord is available now on PC.
