On Wednesday, Motorola revealed a resurrection of one of its most iconic and nostalgic devices of all time. That's right, the Razr is back.

After months of rumors and speculation of foldable smartphone screens, Motorola will try its hand in the market with a familiar device. Clearly banking on the nostalgia of the Razr brand, Motorola announced Wednesday evening that the company will be bringing back the flip phone design in 2020, but this time in a touchscreen smartphone.

While the phone may "flip" in a similar way as its predecessor, the new and improved Razr will feature an ultra-wide 6.2-inch pOLED display with a resolution of 2142 x 876 pixels, Snapdragon 710 processor, Android software, 6GB RAM, and 128GB of non-expandable internal storage. The smartphone will also feature a secondary 2.7-inch gOLED display (800 x 600) on the exterior of the phone that will allow users to view notifications, play music, take selfies, and easily access Google Assistant and is said to be slim enough to easily fit into any pocket. Motorola also claims that the phone will come with two batteries to give the phone "all-day" battery life accompanied by a 15-watt TurboPower charger. The smartphone's main camera will feature a 16MP (Sony IMX517), f/1.7 camera, while the secondary camera is 5MP, f/2.2.

The new Motorola Razr will also come with a USB 3.0 Type-C port, USB-C Razr earbuds, and a fingerprint sensor embedded in the phone's power button. Not only that, for fans of the original Razr, the updated model will come with a "Retro Razr" mode that will enable buttons at the bottom of the screen that is designed to replicate the metallic look of the original model. Motorola's executive director of consumer experience design Paul Pierce said of the new Razr, "We asked customers, and they'd say, as much as they loved the size of their screens, if there was a way to really somehow shrink the device just to fit in their shirt pocket again, that would be great. They were really asking us for the best of both worlds."

Pre-orders for the Motorola Razr will begin on December 26, 2019, and will be available exclusively in Verizon Wireless and Walmart stores, both in-store and online, beginning on January 9, 2020, for $1,499. While the price is comparable to the Samsung Galaxy Fold, the price tag is still more expensive than the recently launched Google Pixel 4 and the Apple iPhone 11, both of which come with better specifications than the new Razr model.
