In a recent interview, developers from EA Motive have confirmed an interest in exploring Dead Space more. The news comes after the successful release of Dead Space, the ground-up remake of the 2008 horror classic.
The recent Dead Space has proven to be a massive success, and fans and critics alike have warmed to it. The main improvement universally praised is the new pacing of the title, which has been reworked to ensure some of the slower areas don't drag on for too long. The modern graphics and the addition of Isaac's voice actor have also earned acclaim from critics. The Dead Space franchise has been dormant ever since Dead Space 3, released almost a decade ago, but the recent remake shows that the franchise still has plenty to offer to the gaming community.
The news that more Dead Space may arrive down the line comes courtesy of a GQ interview with EA Motive's Senior Producer Phil Ducharme and Creative Director Roman Campos-Oriola. When asked if they have an idea what to do with the franchise next, Ducharme answered, "There's interest on my side and I think on Roman's side - you can see his smile - in exploring Dead Space more." The move would make sense, as the Dead Space remake is currently topping sales charts, showing the developer exactly how many fans have been craving more from the series. In the meantime, Dead Space has the potential to keep players hooked for a while yet, with the addition of a New Game+ mode giving the title plenty of replayability.
While the statement from Phil Ducharme will come as great news to fans who enjoyed the recent remake, it's not the only hint. The game itself offers clues about the possibility of a Dead Space 2 remake, and it sounds like it might be moving forward. If a decision to remake Dead Space 2 is taken, then an overhaul Dead Space 3 may also be something to look forward to in the future. Revisiting the classics is always great, but it will be interesting to see if EA Motive creates any sequels once the games are brought into the modern era. If fans remain passionate about the franchise, it's very possible that there will be new stories set in the Dead Space universe.
The game's release hasn't gone without flaws, however. Graphics glitches hamper the PS5 version of Dead Space, although EA Motive seems to be moving fast to ensure the issues are patched. Performance problems have also been reported on PC, even on the highest-end of graphics cards. These don't seem to be too widespread among the community, and hopefully EA Motive is able to remedy the issues before too many players experience them.
