The best movies are full to the brim with memorable characters. These characters stay in audience's minds mainly due to their infectious performances, with some actors going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that their character steals the show whenever they take center stage. This is especially true when it comes to villains in movies, who can be quite entertaining when they're written properly with a great actor to carry the character.

Of course, while some villains are notorious for being extremely evil, their logic doesn't always add up. In fact, some villains have plans that are so hopelessly ridiculous that it simply boggles the mind. The following villains and their idiosyncrasies are proof of this.

10 Scar — The Lion King

The Lion King is one of the most popular movies of all time. It features a memorable villain in the form of Scar, whose actions lead to the death of his own brother and exile of his nephew.

However, this horrible character isn't exactly the smartest person around. He lets the witness to this crime escape and rules Pride Rock without any skill or consideration, leading to his subjects turning on him. He even loses the support of the hyenas in a hare-brained verbal tirade, which eventually leads to his demise.

9 Voldemort — Harry Potter

Harry Potter is one of the most popular franchises of all time, and people still rave about it to this day. The amazing magical world created by J.K. Rowling enjoyed a great series of film adaptations that fans love.

The main villain of the series is a sinister dark wizard who goes by the name of Voldemort. While he's meant to be an all-powerful wizard, the movies show him performing several acts that call his judgment into question. His insistence to use a wand that didn't answer to him is the worst offender in this regard.

8 Otto Octavius — Spider-Man 2

Dr. Octopus in Spider-Man 2

The Spider-Man movie trilogy is one of the best superhero movie series of all time. The second movie is beloved by many, with the battle between Spider-Man and Doc Ock being a visual treat for the ages.

However, Otto's motivations are pretty horrid. He doesn't really understand the ramifications of using the sun's energy as a source of power, and almost destroys the entirety of New York after his idiotic plan goes off the rails once again.

7 Lex Luthor — Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is widely regarded as one of the worst superhero films ever made. The characters are a mess, the story makes no sense, and the villains are downright stupid.

Lex Luthor, who was supposed to be the biggest selling point of this movie, is an incompetent wannabe tyrant whose random actions drive this movie. There's no rhyme or reason to what he wants, making him one of the worst movie villains of all time.

6 Obadiah Stane — Iron Man

Obadiah Stane in Iron Man

Out of all the motivations that can drive a person's ambitions, a lack of career growth has to be among the silliest of the lot. This is precisely why Obadiah Stane takes the crown as a stupid villain in an otherwise great movie.

While his confrontation against Tony is great to watch, it doesn't make up for his weak ambitions. Given that he's nowhere near as smart as Tony, it's only a given that his master plan fails spectacularly as well.

5 Harry & Marv (Home Alone)

Harry, Marv, and the Iron Bar in Home Alone 2

Home Alone is one of the most iconic Christmas movies of all time. Watching Kevin outsmart the two buffoons Harry and Marv twice in the series is a joy to witness every single time.

However, the comedic nature of this film shouldn't take away from the despicable nature of these criminals. They really would have killed Kevin if they got their hands on him, and it's only due to their stupidity that they never get their chance to do so.

4 Laurel Hedare (Catwoman)

Laurel Hedare In Catwoman

Catwoman is acknowledged as one of the worst movies ever made, with Halle Berry's talents being absolutely wasted in this train wreck of a film. The nonsensical plot also features a villain with one of the worst plans for world domination ever seen on film.

Laurel Hedare's nefarious plan involves selling skin cream that burns people's faces off. It's a ridiculous concept that should've never made it into the final product...but, to be honest, this statement can apply to almost everything about Catwoman.

3 Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader — Star Wars

Darth-Vader Star Wars

Darth Vader is one of the most famous villains in movie history. However, he's not exactly the brightest person around. The Sith Lord has been outsmarted by Luke and his pals over and over again.

His life as Anakin Skywalker was pretty tragic, although it was his own stupidity and short-sightedness that led to his downfall. He didn't realize that he was nothing but a pawn who was being manipulated, showing just how dense he really was.

2 Biff Tannen (Back To The Future)

Biff Tannen in Back to the Future

Back to the Future is one of the most iconic movie trilogies of all time. The adventures of Marty McFly and Doc Brown are amazing, and fans still look back on them fondly to this day.

The main antagonist across all three films is the despicable Biff Tannen. He's a bully with nothing better to do, and even gaining access to a time machine doesn't allow him to turn his fortunes around. He has no thought for the ramifications of his actions, and is thwarted every time.

1 The Volturi (Twilight)

The Volturi in Twilight

Twilight is not known for featuring excellent cinematic moments, but the Volturi are extremely incompetent even with this content. This supposedly powerful Vampire sect hunts down the Cullens after they illegally turn a child into a vampire.

However, it was clear that the Volturi had no plan in regards to their hunt for the Cullens. In fact, they turned tail and fled after a single prophecy from Alice spelled their demise. Despite their evil nature, they hadn't really thought anything out.
