Summer is the perfect time for trips to the beach, cookouts, camping out, and, apparently, horror. Eighties horror movies set at summer camps and other vacations spots have set in stone that one of the scariest places to be when faced with a killer is in a remote location in the wilderness with no cellphone service and the only point of authority around being teens who are barely older than the kids they're in charge of.

Darkwood is a topdown survival horror game in which exploration is the key focus. The game doesn't give players a set of objectives to complete. Instead, it's up to them to discover the secrets of Darkwood as they roam the constantly changing world and progress through each chapter. The speed of that progression and what skills a player learns is entirely up to them.

Spirit boards in games almost always lead to disaster. Using one in a haunted forest, in the middle of the night alone is asking for trouble, which is exactly the point in the game Apparition. Players find themselves camping in Green Creek forest intentionally trying to draw out any supernatural being they can to document their existence.

They get exactly what they want and more as they find the forest full of demons, ghosts, and other otherworldly creatures that are all out to get them. Armed with a camera and an audio recorder, the player must record as many traces of supernatural activity as they can while staying hidden.

Evil Dead is another iconic horror movie franchise that has recently gotten another game. It's a multiplayer game that's reminiscent of Dead By Daylight. In Evil Dead: The Game players are split into a team of four survivors, with one player serving as the demon master. Survivor players must complete objectives to prevent the Dark Ones from being summoned. The goal of the demon master is to ensure the Dark Ones are summoned by hindering the survivors in any way they can.

There are tons of different locations and all of them pose some level of danger, as there are hidden spawn points for the demon master to summon demons and set up traps. In Map One the Misty Groves campsite is a particularly dangerous area for players, as it's hard to locate map pieces that may spawn there.

Created by Roblox game developer SamsonXVI, Camping starts out innocently enough as players are taken to the campgrounds where they get time to explore the surrounding forest and collect items. Things take a 180-degree turn when night falls and the group is ambushed by a monster. Players have to fight for survival to make it through to Night 3.

3 Slayaway Camp

As far as dangerous campgrounds go, Slayaway Camp is one of the cuter ones. This game takes the spirit of 80s slasher films and turns it into an interesting puzzle game. Players become Skullface, a Jason-like killer bent on taking out every camp counselor that crosses his path.

Players can make use of the environment and items to slash their way through each puzzle, and find all sorts of collectibles. It may look a little basic, but there's a surprising amount of depth to it.
