A new year brings with it a new slate of video game releases, some of which have yet to even be announced yet. While new games will no doubt be announced in the coming months at events such as the rumored Xbox-Bethesda Conference, Summer Game Fest, and E3 2023, there is already a strong line-up of games confirmed for the new year. Even if some of these are delayed out of their original spots or some even end up in 2024, 2023 has the makings of a great year.

Every game below has a confirmed release date or, at least, a confirmed release window for 2023. The following are the most anticipated games of 2023, listed in order of release date.

Dead Space Remake (January 27)

Isaac Clarke flying freely in the Dead Space remake

Dead Space 3 released back in 2013, making the upcoming Dead Space Remake the first "new" franchise entry in nearly a decade. It seems to be incredibly faithful, with the game retaining the same plot with a few gameplay improvements. Perhaps the biggest change is Dead Space Remake's Isaac being fully voiced as he was in the original sequel and threequel, and while it remains to be seen how that is received, that hasn't stopped the hype train from going ahead full steam. It's not the first release of the new year, but it's high on the list of many personal anticipated lists for January.

Dead Space will release on January 27, 2023, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Hogwarts Legacy (February 10)

hogwarts legacy 2023 harry potter jk rowling controversy expect new year

Although the upcoming game is mired in controversy because of J.K. Rowling, there's no doubt many Harry Potter fans are looking forward to Hogwarts Legacy after years of anticipation. Many fans have wanted a full-blown RPG set in Hogwarts for some time, and that's how this game bills itself. Set in the 1890s, players take on the role of an unusual Hogwarts student entering in the fifth year. The customizable playable character has ties to an ancient secret, a mysterious forgotten magic, and more, with the game also allowing players to choose their Hogwarts House, have friends that represent each of them, and more. Indeed, the hype is palpable for a potentially definitive Harry Potter experience.

Hogwarts Legacy launches on February 10, 2023, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with PS4 and Xbox One versions coming on April 4 and the Switch version launching on July 25.

Like a Dragon: Ishin (February 21)

like a dragon ishin preorder

The original Like a Dragon: Ishin! released back in February 2014, but only in Japan, never making it to a worldwide audience. However, since then, the Like a Dragon franchise has grown and flourished around the globe, and this remake is coming to the world over in February 2023. Unlike most entries in the franchise, this game takes place in the Late Edo Period (1853-1867). In it, players take on the role of Sakamoto Ryoma as they attempt to find their mentor's murderer during a Tosa takeover, while dealing with the streets of Kyoto and joining the Shinsengumi.

Like a Dragon: Ishin releases February 21, 2023, for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (March 17)

Star Wars Jedi Survivor Cover

Cal Kestis' journey continues in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which is set five years after the first game. Outside a potential scattering of the Mantis Crew, not much about the story has been shown so far, but its gameplay speaks for itself. There are plenty of new additions, such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's blaster + lightsaber combo as well as the crossguard lightsaber, and a plethora of new Force powers and applications thereof to engage with too. It's incredibly exciting, especially when its release is only a few months away.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor releases on March 17, 2023, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Resident Evil 4 Remake (March 24)

Village Encounter

Capcom has a reputation for high-quality remakes, and that reputation combined with one of the most beloved games in the Resident Evil franchise, RE4, is a match made in heaven. Fans can expect some improved connections across the franchise's various parasites and viruses, as seen in the Resident Evil 3 remake, but other improvements include an updated control scheme, new gameplay mechanics, improved graphic and character models, and much, much more.

Resident Evil 4 launches March 24, 2023, for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X.

Dead Island 2 (April 28)

Zombie Upcoming Video Games Dead Island 2

For the longest time, Dead Island 2 seemed like a pipe dream that was never coming out until it officially received a release date of February 3. However, following this official re-reveal and announcement, Dead Island 2 has ironically been delayed to its current release date of April 28. It's uncertain if this release date will stick, but hopefully, fans will be able to check it out sooner rather than later, given the extended wait for it already. It takes place in an open-world Los Angeles, semi-jokingly referred to as Hell-A, during its zombie outbreak quarantine. Players will be able to take on the role of slayers with unique abilities, with a few playable Dead Island 2 characters, such as Jacob, Amy, Ryan, and Dani, revealed so far.

Dead Island 2 releases on April 28, 2023, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (May 12)

link in zelda breath of the wild sequel

Sequel to the open-world epic The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been a long time coming. Fans have kept their eyes on the ground for every possible Nintendo event it could be at, and barring any more delays, it seems 2023 will be its year. Link and Zelda seem to be separated again, something strange is potentially going on with Malice and Ganondorf, and there are now floating islands above Hyrule. Fans can expect more information early next year, heading into launch.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom releases May 12, 2023, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League (May 26)

suicide-squad

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League pits the likes of Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and King Shark against the Brainiac-controlled Justice League, including Superman, Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern, and potentially more. Based on trailers from Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, it seems Wonder Woman has somehow escaped Brainiac's control, but it's not certain yet what this means for the story. It's also a co-op squad-based game, where unlike its DC predecessor Gotham Knights, players can switch between characters at will when playing solo; those not currently controlled by the player are AI. Beyond its promising premise, story beats, and gameplay elements, it's also in development by Rocksteady, a beloved studio that worked on the Batman: Arkham games before this.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League launches May 26, 2023, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Street Fighter 6 (June 2)

street fighter 6 release date trailer

Street Fighter 6 is the next entry in the beloved fighting game franchise, coming with three main game modes: Fighting Ground (local and online versus battles), World Tour (single-player story), and Battle Hub (online lobby mode). Of course, its story has had little confirmed so far when gameplay is the driving force behind it, with features like Drive Gauge and super combos being shown off in the story's stead. More is likely to be revealed in the coming months. As of this writing, Street Fighter 6 has 18 characters confirmed for launch so far, 6 of whom are brand new to the franchise.

Street Fighter 6 will be released on June 2, 2023, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Diablo 4 (June 6)

Diablo 4 Lilith Key Art-1

Diablo 4 sees players come face to face with a resurrected Lilith, whose strength grows rapidly as the armies of angels and demons are weak following past games. Players can take on one of five Diablo 4 classes, those being the Barbarian, the Sorceress, the Druid, the Rogue, and the Necromancer. Several gameplay changes, features, and more have been detailed over the past few months, with more likely to be confirmed over the next few months too.

Diablo 4 launches on June 6, 2023, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Final Fantasy 16 (June 22)

final fantasy 16 trailer confirms release date clive

The next mainline entry in the franchise, Final Fantasy 16 is scheduled to release in summer 2023. A handful of trailers have built up the game's story, mystery, gameplay, and more, as players take on the role of Clive, the seeming dominant of the Dark Eikon Ifrit, in a revenge story stretching decades. The world is involved in a war over the Eikons, a Blight spreads across the lands, and Clive has some dark destiny, if all teases and indications are to be believed. It remains to be seen how it all shakes up, but this mature JRPG has held eyes for a long time.

Final Fantasy 16 will be released on June 22, 2023, for PS5.

Redfall (H1 2023)

Image from Redfall showing four players pointing their guns towards the camera.

There are currently rumors that Redfall will release in May 2023, but as of now, that's not certain. Redfall is a Left 4 Dead/Borderlands-style supernatural co-op shooter set in the titular town of Redfall, Massachusetts. Players take on the role of either cryptozoologist Devinder Crousley, telekinetic student Layla Ellison, combat engineer Remi de la Rosa, and supernatural sharpshooter Jacob Boyer as they fight off vampires, cultists, and more. Not much about the story has been shared so far, but glimpses of gameplay show how much potential the shooter has.

Redfall releases in 2023 for PC and Xbox Series X/S.

Starfield (H1 2023)

starfield astronaut

Starfield is the first major IP from Bethesda in decades and is a Sci-Fi RPG, as opposed to Skyrim's fantasy setting and Fallout's post-apocalyptic world. In Starfield, players find themselves in The Settled Systems, seeking answers to life's biggest mysteries. This also takes place about twenty years after the Colony War, which happened between the United Colonies and Freestar Collective, so it is an era of relative peace. Bethesda has shown some of Starfield's character creation, world and art, characters, planets, and gameplay, all of which were incredibly hype-inducing, but much more is likely on the horizon.

Starfield releases in 2023 for PC and Xbox Series X/S.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (Fall 2023)

Miles & Peter

Not so long ago, Insomniac Games revealed Marvel's Spider-Man 2's Fall 2023 release window, and while that wait may be excruciating, it's exciting to see its release date slowly being narrowed down. The past couple of games have been definitive PlayStation experiences, so Spider-Man 2 isn't likely to be anything less. After all, not only do players get to step into the shoes of Peter Parker and Miles Morales, but villains like Harry Osborn, Venom, and Kraven the Hunter are setting up an intriguing narrative.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to release in Fall 2023 on PS5.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (Winter 2023)

final-fantasy-7-remake-rebirth-subtitle-meaning

Final Fantasy fans aren't just getting one game next year, but two barring any delays. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the second part of the franchise's remake project, is set to release next winter. It's uncertain how much ground this specific title will cover, especially since the first part turned such a small portion of the base game into a full-blown game itself, but fans can expect new party members, new abilities for Cloud, and more of all the things that made this particular entry in the franchise great.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is scheduled to release in Winter 2023 on PS5.

Alan Wake 2 (2023)

alan wake 2 update

Alan Wake is officially getting a sequel more than a decade later, something many fans have clamored years for. This has built a ton of hype for Alan Wake 2, a survival horror game coming in 2023. Not much has been confirmed yet, but it is connected to Control and a larger Remedy Connected Universe, something that should be exciting for fans of Remedy Entertainment's games.

Alan Wake 2 is scheduled to release in 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon (2023)

armored core 6 trailer mech

FromSoftware may have just released Elden Ring earlier this year, but it's not one to rest on its laurels, with Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon set to release in 2023. While some expected it to have elements of FromSoftware's famous Souls games, it has since been confirmed to be true to the mecha genre instead. It will feature PvP and have an emphasis on mecha customization, while more story has been confirmed than gameplay. In Armored Core 6, the planet is set on Rubicon 3 following an apocalyptic event engulfing the planet in flames. Mega-corps, resistance groups, and more wage war on the planet while trying to gain control over some mysterious resource.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon will be released in 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Assassin's Creed Mirage (2023)

assassins creed mirage trailer

While the past few entries in the Assassin's Creed franchise have been open-world RPGs, the next, Assassin's Creed Mirage, is an action-adventure title focused on stealth, parkour, and assassination. Players will take on the role of a younger Basim, a man haunted by strange visions and nightmares, who joins the Hidden Ones to seek answers. Learning more about Basim is a real treat for fans, but many fans have also grown tired of the RPG approach. Revisiting the action-adventure approach is certainly welcome, as it interjects something new and exciting into the franchise, but it's also just the first step. AC Red is an open-world RPG, and AC Hexe is billed as something else entirely. With a mobile open-world game in development too, the franchise has a nice and varied future in 2023 and beyond.

Assassin's Creed Mirage releases in 2023 for Luna, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

Hollow Knight: Silksong (2023)

Silksong PlayStation Release

Hollow Knight: Silksong has long been considered the Elden Ring of indie games, if only because fans desperately want to see it at show after show, conference after conference, and it's never there. In fact, while it appeared at the Bethesda/Xbox conference earlier this year, it hasn't been seen since. However, it was confirmed to be a day one Xbox Game Pass title set to release before June 12, 2023, meaning it is coming sometime next year. Delays are not impossible, but with any luck, fans will be playing Hollow Knight: Silksong in a matter of months.

Hollow Knight: Silksong releases in 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

Lies of P (2023)

lies-of-p-nearly-done

The Soulslike genre continues to grow, with Lies of P being one of many within it coming next year. However, many have compared Lies of P to Bloodborne instead of the original Dark Souls series, and its general premise based on Pinocchio makes it stand out. In it, players must find Mr. Geppetto within the fallen city of Krat, but finding him will put Pinocchio to the test. He must tell lies to become human, fight in a world with a unique Belle Epoque era design, complete procedural quests, combine weapons in a multitude of ways reminiscent of trick weapons, and level up via a special skill system where body parts can be interchangeable.

Lies of P is currently scheduled to release in 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
