Retailers Already Selling ‘Mortal Kombat X’; Early Footage Leaks Online

By | 2 years ago

Ultra-violent fighter Mortal Kombat X is one of the most highly anticipated games of the spring gaming season. As the first Mortal Kombat game to be released on PS4 and Xbox One, fans are hoping that its gruesome graphics will look even better on current gen consoles. MK fans are also excited to meet the game’s massive character roster, which features new and old faces. Moreover, the game’s DLC plans are also a big draw, as players will be able to test out some DLC characters for free.

With this much hype around the title, it’s little surprise that some retailers have started selling Mortal Kombat X to players before its April 14 release date. In brick and mortar stores, this usually happens when somebody knows one of the employees or if someone has paid an employee extra to break the street date. Because of this, trying to find a copy of the game before release date is unpredictable.

But some players who do have copies of the game have already leaked information about gameplay and unlockable costumes. One of the biggest reveals comes from 10sansari on the Mortal Kombat subreddit, as they have explained that the Krypt (where Mortal Kombat players unlock extra goodies such as costumes by using coins earned in other game modes) will feature jump scares. 10sansari says that “There’s a QTE where you have to press a button too. and quick-time events” and if successful, players will achieve a trophy for it.

One of the unlockable costumes mentioned is a Scorpion outfit themed around NetherRealm’s other major franchise, Injustice. Some will even remember that Scorpion was a playable DLC fighter for that game.

As for leaked Mortal Kombat X gameplay, full lists of fatalities (including brutalities and faction kills) have made their way online, but unfortunately most of the footage has been removed from YouTube due to copyright claims by publisher Warner Bros. There are still gifs of Cassie Cage and Kotal Kahn‘s fatalities, though, and the above video of Sonya Blade’s second fatality has gone under the copyright radar for now. MK fans may also find some luck with Mortal Kombat X streams on Twitch, but those have not lasted long.

Despite these copyright notices, Mortal Kombat‘s series director Ed Boon has been doing some reveals of his own. On Twitter he explained that profile icons, frames, and backgrounds provide players with an extra buff when combined with one another. This won’t give players an advantage in the fight, though, as the buffs are “more along the lines of EXP”.

Mortal Kombat X will be released on April 14, 2015 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
