Mortal Kombat X is nearly upon us, with NetherRealm Studios’ hyper-violent beat ‘em up just weeks away from release. The fighter is set to launch on April 14 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC and this summer for Xbox 360 and PS3 after a recent delay. Fans of the franchise will be able to play as a number of returning combatants, including the likes of Mileena, Johnny Cage and Sonja Blade.

There have even been some surprise character announcements along the way. The developer has revealed that players will be able to fight as horror icon Jason Vorhees, with the Friday the 13th killer set to release as DLC. Although Mokap will not be a secret comedy character in this iteration, there is still a strong line-up of confirmed fighters.

It looks like that is far from the end of the character roster for Mortal Kombat X, however. Intrepid Mortal Kombat fanatics over at Xbox360Achievements have revealed that some more iconic characters from previous Mortal Kombat games are due to pop up as fighters once more. The screenshots show that both Shinnok and fan favorite Baraka will appear in Mortal Kombat X.

Baraka, who first appeared in Mortal Kombat II, is not a surprising addition to the Mortal Kombat X roster. The Tarkatan has appeared in ten Mortal Kombat games (including anthologies such as Mortal Kombat Trilogy) and has gained a strong player following. Meanwhile, evil elder god Shinnok has been part of the franchise since Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub Zero, and has been rumored to play a part in the over-the-top plot of Mortal Kombat X.

Also revealed via screenshot was gunslinger Erron Black, a new character for Mortal Kombat X who has played a significant role in the Mortal Kombat X comic. Black acts as a mercenary for the villainous Kotal Kahn, another new Mortal Kombat character who fights Mileena for the throne of the Outworld. Also included in the leak were images of Goro, who has been revealed as a pre-order exclusive, and Jax.

There’s been no official word from NetherRealm Studios as of yet, but the developer has been steadily releasing details of new characters for some time. It could be that these pugilists release as one of the four additional DLC characters, or, in the case of well-known characters like Baraka, will be available in the retail version of the game. Either way, the Mortal Kombat X lineup is getting even more enticing.
