Jason Voorhees may not have been the guest character that Mortal Kombat X fans were expecting, but his addition to the DLC lineup is a nice follow-up to Freddy Krueger's appearance in Mortal Kombat 9. Considering that the Friday the 13th series packs in as much gore as the MPAA will allow, it's also a great fit for the extreme gore of the Mortal Kombat universe.

Jason Voorhees's reveal trailer was creatively released on Friday the 13th back in March, but since then nothing further has been revealed. Fans of the character have been kept anxiously waiting for Jason to reappear, just like in the films.

Eager fans will be glad to know that another small glimpse of Jason in-game has been revealed. YouTuber NinjaHawkins has uploaded a video of the character select screen in Mortal Kombat X that includes the ability to select Jason. The character select animation shows him slowly walking towards the camera with his usual silent, yet menacing, demeanor. Unlike other Mortal Kombat characters, he doesn't pose or brandish his weapon, but just stands still at the end of the animation. In fact, his machete seems to be absent here, unlike in the reveal trailer.

'Mortal Kombat X' Horror Pack DLC Costumes Revealed - Jason Voorhees

Despite his presence on the character select screen, Jason isn't playable at this time. Text on the screen indicates that the player can "Press X To Purchase Jason". This command presumably allows the player to place an order for the Kombat Pack DLC season pass, and may allow for buying him separately after the first week of Kombat Pack exclusivity has passed.

With just under a week left before the release of the Kombat Pack, basically nothing is known of Jason's play style or fatalities. Due to this, his addition to the character select screen will probably make gamers even more anxious to see what his character has to offer. Thankfully, NetherRealms has noted that gamers will get a chance to demo Mortal Kombat X DLC characters before they buy them, so those who aren't yet convinced can still try before they buy.

Mortal Kombat X has delivered a solid gameplay experience, although it's frustrated some gamers with the cost of its DLC. While Jason's addition to the game doesn't appeal to everyone, NetherRealms has made it clear that more Mortal Kombat X DLC characters are sure to follow.

Are you ready to "Press X To Jason", or are you going to pass on Mortal Kombat X's first DLC character? Let us know in the comments!

Jason Voorhees will be released on May 5th as part of the Mortal Kombat X Kombat Pack, and as a standalone character the week after.
