The official live-action Mortal Kombat reboot has finally premiered after a long hype period, and it seems to be a somewhat mixed bag. While many have enjoyed the reboot as a faithful live-action adaptation of the ultra-violent series, but others have had less enthusiastic responses to the film, criticizing some awkward storytelling and lackluster plot when compared to the overall potential of the universe.

Still, despite the mixed reviews for Mortal Kombat, the film is putting up a solid box office opening and seems to be on track for a successful premiere, which makes sequels a very real possibility. In fact, recent news seems to indicate that more films in the franchise are definitely in the cards, with one actor revealing that his contract has him committed to 4 more entries in the franchise, should the studio decide to make those sequels.

So, it seems like anyone involved in the latest Mortal Kombat film can look forward to at least one more gig with the franchise, considering the success of the first entry. Still, some of those involved are quite busy and have a lot of irons in a lot of fires. One of those people is Mortal Kombat writer Greg Russo, and he's attached to quite a few upcoming projects, many of which happen to be adaptations of video games. His upcoming list of credits includes projects like Space Invaders, Saints Row, and even Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

bioshock would you kindly

Russo certainly has found a niche adapting games to the big screen, and so it was that in a recent interview with We Got This Covered, he admitted he had his sights set on yet more game IPs. When asked what he would work on if he could choose any IP without restriction, the writer replied that there are lots of things he'd love to get his hands on, but one of his favorite games is Bioshock, and naturally, that means he'd love to take a crack at bringing the underwater city of Rapture to life.

As one of the most famous first-person shooter games of all time, an adaptation of Bioshock is no doubt a dream project for quite a few game lovers in Hollywood, and Russo seems to have a specific vision for what he'd do with the franchise, taking it down to its horror roots: "it’s about capturing the fear and the weirdness and the wildness of that world. That’s what I would love to do. But we’ll see, man, we’ll see."

While there are no currently announced plans to give Russo the reins to any Bioshock project, it'd certainly be a great world and atmosphere that could really benefit from a big-budget film project. Perhaps someday fans really will see Rapture on the big screen in all its decrepit glory, but until then, hopefully, Russo's other game adaptations turn out well, and more games can begin to cross that boundary from consoles to theaters.

Mortal Kombat is currently available in theaters or on HBO Max.
