'Mortal Kombat' Trailer Featuring the 'God of War', Kratos

Kratos in Mortal Kombat Trailer

A few days ago we learned that Kratos from the God of War series would be making an appearance in the upcoming and highly anticipated Mortal Kombat game, but other than a confirmation we didn't have much else to go on. That changed today, however, when a new Mortal Kombat trailer featuring the God of War himself was revealed at the Spike Video Game Awards.

The trailer starts with Sub-Zero and Scorpion, two classic Mortal Kombat enemies, fighting to the death, but just as Scorpion is getting ready to deliver a fatality Kratos' chain comes flying behind a stunned Sub-Zero, impales him, and sends him flying through a plume of fire. It is here that Kratos emerges from the smoke to challenge Scorpion.

What happens after this is anyone's guess, but the trailer can be located just below for those who want to see for themselves:

Kratos will also receive his very own God of War inspired stage, which only cranks up the "OMG" factor another notch. Kratos will have a unique moveset and won't plagiarize any of the other fighters' moves, which is another awesome step that the folks at NetherRealm Studios have taken in order to deliver a truly fantastic game. Those of you who think that Kratos in a fighting game doesn't make much sense should know that he's no stranger to guest appearances in fighting games. Kratos appeared as a playable character in Soul Calibur on the PSP.

The God of War certainly seems like he would fit in perfectly with the rest of the Mortal Kombat crew, but what about Xbox 360 owners? Surely they will receive their own exclusive character as well? Unfortunately, there has been no word, good or bad, on whether or not 360 gamers will have their own character or if this is just a little added incentive to purchase the title on PS3. If this is the case then Gears of War franchise seems like a likely place an Xbox character will come from, especially with Gears of War 3 likely due to hit next year a little after Mortal Kombat.

How did you like the trailer? Who would you like to see appear in the 360 version of Mortal Kombat?

Mortal Kombat will have players summoning the God of War sometime next year.
