Without a doubt, many are looking forward to the release of Mortal Kombat 11, which we consider one of the most anticipated titles of 2019. It seems likely that many of those hyped for MK11 would also likely appreciate a well-done remaster of the original Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2, and Mortal Kombat 3, all of which was in the works under the title Mortal Kombat Remaster Collection or Mortal Kombat Kollection Online — emphasis on the word "was."

Sadly, it appears this project was canceled. This much has been confirmed by Danny Huynh, Concept Artist and UI Artist at Blind Squirrel Games whose job was to "set the quality bar for the UI and FX while maintaining the look of the trilogy of the series." This remaster would have also introduced a new game mode known as the Krypt, which many may realize is reminiscent of Mortal Kombat 11 and some other post-2000 Mortal Kombat titles.

Considering the original Mortal Kombat was an arcade game originally made in 1992, Mortal Kombat 2 first launched as an arcade game in 1993 before being ported to consoles, and Mortal Kombat 3 released in 1995 for both Arcades and consoles, the franchise has come a long way to Mortal Kombat 11, though many characters such as Kitana have returned from even the earliest games. So, it's easy to see why many would welcome a modern take on such classic games.

Huynh would also go on to release some concept art for the now-canceled Mortal Kombat project, including some takes on Scorpion's fire fatality and Subzero's freeze special move. While envisioning what could have been, it's worth mentioning that Mortal Kombat 11 releases incredibly soon.

Hopefully, Warner Bros. will allow a studio to finish this project at some point, but it's uncertain when this could even be a possibility. Until then, players will have to sate their hunger with Mortal Kombat 11.

Mortal Kombat 11 is scheduled to launch on April 23, 2019, for PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
