All eyes are on developers as both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X get closer to their release, prompting many to wonder which games will be developed on the next-generation consoles. NetherRealm Studios may have made the first move, indicating future Mortal Kombat and Injustice games coming to next-gen systems.

NetherRealm Studios posted a job listing for a principal software engineer for graphics. Although job listings can be vague and sometimes do not directly correlate to new game titles, this job listing is possibly focusing on developing games on next-generation consoles. The PlayStation 5 proved to be capable of incredible graphics with a demonstration of the new Unreal Engine 5, and both Mortal Kombat and Injustice run on Unreal Engine, showing what the next game might be capable of achieving, graphically speaking.

Although plenty of games have been confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, there is little news from NetherRealm about the next Mortal Kombat and Injustice. This does make sense, as Mortal Kombat 11 was only released last year, and Injustice 2 was released in 2017. Mortal Kombat 11 is still receiving updates, and the latest Aftermath DLC released less than a month ago. Because of the continued success of Mortal Kombat 11, NetherRealm Studios may still focus on supporting the current game.

If NetherRealm Studios is hiring for Injustice on next-generation consoles, it could build off the incredible success of Mortal Kombat 11, showing off DC characters with better graphics and smoother gameplay. Joker was added to Mortal Kombat 11 and has some possibly foreshadowing lines, pushing many to fans believe that a new Injustice was already hinted at, though developers claimed it was just a coincidence.

The job listing could point to the development of a new title on next-generation consoles, or could possibly be filling a role for creating new characters for Mortal Kombat 11. It is always a game of Test Your Luck when dealing with NetherRealm rumors, because NetherRealm developer, Ed Boon, is known for throwing fans off with vague hints and cryptic announcements.

As for now, players are still enjoying Mortal Kombat 11 and NetherRealm is making moves in the film department with an animated movie and possibly a live-action movie in the future. With so many game announcements happening, it is possible that NetherRealm will give fans a hint at what is to come soon.
