The upcoming Mortal Kombat movie has had a bit of a strange reception thus far. Based on the teases surrounding the film, fans are hopeful that Mortal Kombat will manage to deliver a fulfilling on-screen adaptation of the video game franchise, but there are those with fears that it will wind up like the original Mortal Kombat movies. Little has been seen of the new adaptation, but fans finally know roughly when to expect a trailer.

On Twitter, Mortal Kombat Producer Todd Garner revealed that fans can likely a trailer sometime this summer. This means there are still a few months to wait before fans actually get to real footage of the film, but it's at least nice to know that something is coming. Fans have seen teases of the Mortal Kombat movie's finale, but not much else, so it should finally show fans what to expect in terms of the film's quality.

The Mortal Kombat movie release date was moved up, shaving off a few months before fans get to see the film. Now, Mortal Kombat is set to release on January 15th, 2021, instead of its initial release date in March 2021. It's still quite a bit of a wait, though the change is a positive shift for anxious fans. Who knows, maybe Mortal Kombat will even help break the video game movie curse.

There is a second Mortal Kombat movie in the works for later this year, though it's an animated film following Scorpion. The animated art style should make it different enough from the live-action one to keep them distinct, while at the same time giving the creators some more freedom to play around with thanks to it being less grounded in reality.

There are quite a few things fans want to see in the Mortal Kombat movie, though only time will tell if it meets expectations. Video game films haven't been the greatest in the past, though fans can hope that the film lives up to Mortal Kombat'pedigree. The original films weren't exactly great, but that at least means it should be relatively easy to outdo them.

The Mortal Kombat movie is slated to release on January 15th, 2021.
