Earlier this year, it came to light that Warner Bros. has a new Mortal Kombat movie in development, and it is being produced by Aquaman director James Wan. Since then, a release date for the new Mortal Kombat movie has been revealed, but further details have been somewhat scarce. That said, a new piece of information about the film has just come out, as the actor that will portray the iconic Sub-Zero is now confirmed.

More specifically, Joe Taslim will play Sub-Zero in the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Taslim's deal is the first to close for the forthcoming Mortal Kombat film, which means that there is certain to be a great deal more casting to be done before shooting begins later this year. To note, it is said that the shoot for the Mortal Kombat movie will take place in southern Australia.

Taslim's previous credits include The RaidFast & Furious 6, and Star Trek Beyond, among other roles in TV and movies. Additionally, he is a martial artist who was part of Indonesia's national Judo team. Certainly, this skill set makes Taslim an understandable pick for a role in a film based on a fighting game, and the new Mortal Kombat movie is sure to be high on action and heavily focused on martial arts prowess.

With respect to exactly what Sub-Zero will be doing, beyond fighting, in the forthcoming MK film, that is currently unknown. Indeed, the plot of the new MK movie remains a total mystery at this time, but, with the Mortal Kombat movie release date still nearly two years away, there is plenty of time for narrative details to be made available to fans.

A little over two months ago, NetherRealm Studios released Mortal Kombat 11, the latest game in the legendary fighting game franchise, and players are now mastering their favorite Mortal Kombat 11 characters, including Sub-Zero. Undoubtedly, many of these fans will be thrilled to see their preferred fighters up on the big screen, but they will need to exercise some patience while awaiting details on what actors will portray them in the new MK film.

The Mortal Kombat movie releases March 5, 2021 in theaters.
