Mortal Kombat Movie Reboot Will Feature MK3 Characters

mortal kombat movie reboot mk3 characters

The scope of the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie reboot isn't entirely clear at the time of this writing, but we now know it will likely include characters from Mortal Kombat 3. This was confirmed by screenwriter Greg Russo, who confirmed to a fan on Twitter that there are indeed plans for Mortal Kombat 3 characters in the movie.

Russo didn't elaborate on which Mortal Kombat 3 characters may appear in the Mortal Kombat movie reboot, but there are a number of options. This includes the likes of Noob Saibot, Nightwolf, Jade, Kabal, and many more. But perhaps the specific Mortal Kombat 3 characters appearing in the Mortal Kombat movie reboot are less important than the knowledge that the reboot will be featuring characters from multiple games in the series.

This revelation about the Mortal Kombat movie reboot leaves the door wide open for virtually any of the characters throughout the game series to appear in the film. Even so, we expect that the Mortal Kombat movie reboot will primarily focus on characters from the first game, or otherwise the most well-known characters in the franchise.

For example, most of the Mortal Kombat movie reboot characters that have been cast so far appeared in the first game in the series. This includes Raiden, Shang Tsung, Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, Scorpion, and Sub-Zero. However, some Mortal Kombat 2 characters are also confirmed for the cast, including Jax, Kung Lao, and Mileena.

It's nice to see that the Mortal Kombat movie reboot will have a nice mix of characters from throughout the video game series. However, it remains to be seen if some of the newer characters will make it into the movie. Some fans may want to see Cetrion, Geras, and The Kollector from Mortal Kombat 11 on the big screen. Others may be more interested in seeing some of the characters introduced in Mortal Kombat X, like Cassie Cage, D'Vorah, Erron Black, and Jacqui Briggs.

Depending on how closely the Mortal Kombat movie reboot follows the plot of the game series, some of those characters may not appear until future installments. With the Mortal Kombat movie featuring Fatalities and embracing a hard R rating, it seems safe to say that the movie will be faithful to the source material, so it seems likely that whoever does appear will be portrayed properly at the very least.

Mortal Kombat will premiere in theaters on March 5, 2021.
