The original motion picture soundtrack album for Mortal Kombat has been released by WaterTower Music, Warner Bros.' in-house music label. The album consisting of 24 original tracks was released at midnight, Pacific Time, by the label on their official YouTube channel and immediately had fans of the franchise sharing their reviews.

The tracks have been composed by Benjamin Wallfisch, who is responsible for the soundtracks of several big films, including It, It Chapter Two, Shazam!, and Blade Runner 2049. The dynamic, heart-pumping tracks include themes for many of the main Mortal Kombat characters, such as Lord Raiden, Cole Young, Sonya Blade, Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Kung Lao, and Scorpion, among others. But, what seems to have caught the attention of many fans are the epic battle themes, including one for “Kano v Reptile” and “Sub-Zero v Cole Young.”

The official Twitter page for the film teased the release of the soundtrack on Thursday, by sharing a link to a virtual listening party. It was confirmed that WaterTower Music would be releasing the Mortal Kombat original soundtrack album for the film on Friday. As soon as the soundtrack went live, fan comments started pouring in, with mostly positive reviews. There was a lot of appreciation for how the new album honors its predecessor, with many fans reminiscing over tracks from the original motion picture album released in 1993. But, the high energy of the tracks is what fans are raving over the most.

The theme song for the Mortal Kombat reboot, titled "Techno Syndrome 2021," was released just a few days ago, complete with someone screaming “Mortal Kombat!” The track was a techno-inspired version of the original theme that was first released in 1993 as a single and was later featured in Mortal Kombat: The Album, which released in 1994. Performed by The Immortals, the track has been associated with the franchise since it was used in the 1995 film and is recognized by Mortal Kombat fans as the theme song for the series.

When the first Mortal Kombat trailer was revealed, fans were upset that the original theme music was missing, but its updated version was met with mixed reviews. While many fans appreciated Wallfisch’s take on the iconic piece of music, some were disappointed and believed it sounded like any other EDM track.

Additionally, an exclusive track, “I Am Scorpion!," was released on Thursday to build the hype for the latest Mortal Kombat album, and it was enough to increase the excitement among fans. The three-minute track begins with an homage to “Techno Syndrome,” and the powerful theme had fans theorizing about the tense Mortal Kombat fight scenes that Scorpion would be a part of in the film.

Mortal Kombat is set to be released simultaneously in theatres and on HBO Max on April 23, 2021.
