Mortal Kombat 11 is still entertaining fans, as they continue to dish out fatalities as a variety of different characters. However, a new Mortal Kombat installment is coming through a different medium, as a movie reboot is set to be released in 2021. Naturally, fans will want to know which of their favorite characters will appear in the film. Fortunately for these fans, the writer of the new Mortal Kombat movie has answered some questions about who will be in the picture.

The writer of the new film, Greg Russo, has confirmed that Johnny Cage would not only be in the new film, but there were "Big plans for J.C. Can't say much more than that." This will surely enthuse fans of the in-game movie-star. In the meantime, more characters were also announced by the writer.

Kitana and Motaro were also confirmed to be featured in the new film, which should come as a relief to fans of those characters, as the growing cast list of Mortal Kombat had yet to mention them. However, it is worth remembering that scripts are changed during production. Although Russo has written characters into the script, that doesn't necessarily mean they'll be seen on the big screen. Yet, with production underway, it will be a relief that fan-favorites are intended to be in the picture.

On the back of reports on which characters will be included, there will be questions about the content of the film, and how it utilizes its growing cast. The fact that Mortal Kombat will feature fatalities and be rated R will give viewers an idea of what kind of film it is going to be, and how the cast will be used. Many fans of the franchise will see the number of characters and the certification of the film as a positive sign. If the new film can balance an ensemble cast, violence, and story it will be an interesting reboot.

While the Mortal Kombat films have struggled in the past to independently make their mark, that doesn't mean that this will be the case in the future. Trailers building up to the 2021 release date of Mortal Kombat, will give fans a better idea of what the film is about, and whether it can improve on the old films. In the meantime, news about Johnny Cage's inclusion, the rating of the film, and the ensemble cast will surely build anticipation for the new Mortal Kombat movie.

Mortal Kombat the film is set to be released on March 5, 2021.
