At the end of 2018, the announcement of Mortal Kombat 11 gave fans a gruesome intro to the next entry in the legendary franchise. However, it appears that this game is not the only Mortal Kombat property currently in the works, as reports indicate that an animated movie is also on the horizon.

According to Revenge of the Fans, the animated Mortal Kombat movie is being produced by Warner Bros. Animation, and there is already a sizable list of talent attached to the project. This cast list is headlined by Joel McHale, an actor known for his role on the TV sitcom Community, and Jennifer Carpenter from Dexter, but there has been no confirmation of what characters they will be lending their voices to.

Furthermore, the purported cast includes several actors that have previous experience working on the Mortal Kombat franchise. Specifically, Steve Blum (the voice of Bo' Rai Cho, Reptile, and Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat 10), Kevin Michael Richards (the voice of Goro in the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie as well as Ermac and Kabal in the animated series), and Patrick Seitz (the voice of Scorpion in 2011's Mortal Kombat game and Mortal Kombat 10) are all said to be involved.

Additional cast members include Ike Amadi, Darin DePaul, Robin Atkin Downes, Grey Griffin, Jordan Rodrigues, and Fred Tatasciore. Many of these actors have experience with voice work and are featured on animated series including Avengers AssembleJustice League Action, and Voltron.

Warner Bros. took ownership of Mortal Kombat following the bankruptcy of Midway Games in 2009, and indeed it has only been a matter of time before the studio put the franchise back on the silver screen. While New Line Cinema, a sister studio to Warner Bros., has reportedly been staffing a new live-action Mortal Kombat movie since 2011, a number of directorial and producorial shakeups may mean that this newly announced animated film will be the first to see the light of day.

Details beyond the aforementioned cast list are slim at this time, however some fans are certain to be excited just by the prospect of an animated Mortal Kombat feature. As these individuals await further information, they may find that this week's upcoming Mortal Kombat 11 reveal sufficiently scratches their Mortal Kombat itch.
