The Mortal Kombat live-action movie isn't coming out until January 2021, but fans can whet their appetite with an animated MK movie this spring. Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge is an animated feature from Warner Bros., and based on the first trailer, it looks like it will please fans of the ultra-violent fighting game franchise.

The Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge trailer doesn't show much in the way of actual violence, as it cuts away before any blood or guts can be spilled. However, we know that this new Mortal Kombat animated movie will be rated R, so fans can expect plenty of over-the-top action that's true to the source material.

The trailer confirms a few details about Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge, including the cast of characters that fans can expect to see in the movie. This includes the titular Scorpion, Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, Johnny Cage, Goro, Shang Tsung, and more. Iconic voice lines from the video games series, like Scorpion's "GET OVER HERE!" will also be featured in the new animated movie, and fans can check it out for themselves in the new trailer.

The Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge trailer also reveals some details about the movie's plot. It appears as though it will be largely inspired by the story in the first Mortal Kombat video game, with Shang Tsung organizing and hosting the Mortal Kombat tournament. Like in that original video game, the characters in Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge will have to face off against Goro before fighting Shang Tsung himself, though it remains to be seen what other directions the plot will go.

We do know that the movie will feature a battle between Scorpion and Sub-Zero, which should be one of the more crowd-pleasing moments. Scorpion and Sub-Zero have consistently been two of the most popular characters in the Mortal Kombat franchise, and seeing them go at it should provide for some great action.

Warner Bros. has put out high-quality animated movies on a regular basis, and so the Mortal Kombat animated movie is in good hands. At the very least, it should tide fans over before they can get their first look at the Mortal Kombat live-action movie that's coming out next year.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge is coming to home media this spring.
