Insider reports have also heavily implied NetherRealm's next project will be Mortal Kombat, citing potential licensing issues with Injustice's cast of DC characters. Now, a tweet from Johnny Cage's voice actor Andrew Bowen may have just teased Mortal Kombat 12 on Twitter.
A video posted to Bowen's Twitter on Monday morning shows the voice actor arriving at Warner Bros' studios showcasing the iconic WB water tower. The music playing in the background of the video bears a striking resemblance to Mortal Kombat 2, with accompanying voice lines played over. While Bowen's video is far from a full-on confirmation of a new Mortal Kombat game, his involvement with a mystery Warner Bros. project lends heavily to Bowen reprising his role as Johnny Cage.
Bowen's cryptic Tweet has come as NetherRealm has been publicly silent about the future of the Mortal Kombat franchise following Mortal Kombat 11's conclusion. Earlier this year, rumors surfaced of Warner Bros. Interactive's studios potentially being sold, with Sony and Microsoft reported to be among the potential buyers. The report revealed that NetherRealm specifically was among the studios that Warner Bros. was looking to shed, sparking speculation about both Mortal Kombat and Injustice's future with NetherRealm potentially losing the DC license.
