With just two weeks remaining until the Mortal Kombat reboot movie releases, the film’s official social media page has been creating hype by releasing several character posters and teasers. But, fans were in for a big surprise when the official IMAX poster for the film, created by digital artist BossLogic, was revealed.

With the most popular catchphrase “Get over here!” running across the top, the colorful poster showcases Sub-Zero and Scorpion on opposite sides, clearly focusing on their rivalry and hinting at it being the main focus of the upcoming movie, similar to the trailer. Some of the other main Mortal Kombat characters who make an appearance include Jax, Sonya Blade, Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Kano, Raiden, Kabal, Mileena, and Shang-Tsung.

Fans of the franchise immediately started commenting on the Mortal Kombat poster, expressing their excitement for the film that releases this April. Most comments were about the two main characters, Scorpion and Sub-Zero, with fans picking sides and rooting for their favorite character to win the "kombat." Before the film’s release, the fanbase seems to be divided into two teams - ice and fire. It has already been revealed that the film will be showcasing the animosity between the two, with the first few minutes of the Mortal Kombat film highlighting how Scorpion witnesses his family’s murder at the hands of a clan led by Sub-Zero.

Some keen-eyed viewers were quick to point out that the poster reveals Mileena’s teeth, something fans have previously expressed concerns over. When the first trailer for the film was released, many fans complained that Mileena, played by Sisi Stringer, did not look like her Mortal Kombat game counterpart, who is seen wearing a mask that she removes during one of her fatalities to reveal a large mouth rimmed with very sharp teeth. At the time, the film’s producer, Todd Garner, had promised that fans hadn’t seen all of her yet, and the new IMAX poster seems to confirm that there is more to the character.

Cole Young, a new and quite controversial character, stands in the center of the poster and seems to be ready for a fight. Fans have had mixed reactions to Young’s introduction, with many complaining that the MMA fighter does not require a place in the extremely popular franchise. In the trailer, Young seems to have a birthmark in the shape of a dragon on his chest but is clueless about its origin. While Blade informs him that it is an invitation to the Mortal Kombat tournament, fans don’t seem convinced of his addition to the movie’s roster. The film’s release will be able to answer any fan questions about Cole Young's true identity and lineage.

Mortal Kombat releases in theaters and on HBO Max on April 23, 2021.
