A Mortal Kombat fan created a mod that allows users to play Mortal Kombat 10 in first-person. While the game clearly wasn't designed to be played from a first-person perspective, it's an interesting departure from the series norm, offering a better look at just how detailed some of the game's stages really are.
The user, Ermaccer, shared a few different versions of the camera mod on Twitter, one of which rotates the third-person perspective to give an over-the-shoulder look. The two others are both first-person perspective mods, though one features a "mid" camera angle meant to provide a perspective similar to "fps style videos/images." The new camera angles are interesting, but not exactly polished, so they wouldn't exactly be useful in competitive play.
However, it would be interesting to see how the camera functions in the series' most recent entry, Mortal Kombat 11. The game looks a lot sharper and feels a lot faster than Mortal Kombat 1o, so there would be a fairly big difference between the two, plus a lot more detail to take in. Both games boast an impressive roster of DLC characters though, and while Ermaccer's video doesn't show any of them off, it would be nice to get a look at Robocop or the Xenomorph in a fist-fight.
Mortal Kombat games don't get mods all that often, as the modding communities' focus tends to be on games like Skyrim. There have been some cool Mortal Kombat mods here and there, though, and occasionally the community petitions to get new features or characters added to the game. The most notable was fans petitioning to have Shaggy added to Mortal Kombat 11, which never happened, but did go viral for a prolonged period.
With a dedicated community backing it, the future of the Mortal Kombat franchise looks bright. Mortal Kombat 11 will likely be around for a few more years, but that isn't really a bad thing. The game has received ample post-launch support, and if NetherRealm is planning on it being relevant for years to come, there's likely more in the pipeline.
Until NetherRealm announces more, fans of the series can rest assured the games are getting some community support. So long as fans have characters they want to play as in Mortal Kombat 11, players will likely keep hearing about the game. At least those wondering what Mortal Kombat looks like in first-person now have an answer.
