Mortal Kombat is quickly becoming one of the more anticipated games of this season. After Game Rant got to go hands-on with the game, the release date for the next bloody installment in the memorable franchise cannot come soon enough.
The game has already been revealed to have plenty of goodies for fans to chew on, including the Challenge Tower and plenty of minigames, but Xbox 360 users might still be wondering just what the achievements of the game will be.
Wonder no longer, as the list reached the internet just yesterday, courtesy Xbox360Achievements.org. As expected, there are achievements for completing various modes, winning a number of matches, winning in a certain way, performing Fatalities, and unlocking characters and costumes.
The most important parts of this leak, however, are the secret achievements which reveal a number of bits of information previously unknown. The most notable of these are the achievements for unlocking two characters. The first of these is Mortal Kombat villain Quan Chi.
Fans of the series will remember Quan Chi as a master of manipulation, the architect behind the original Sub-Zero’s fall to darkness, and the true killer of Scorpion’s family. He’s also a powerful sorcerer, considered by some to be greater than long-time enemy Shang Tsung. What role he’ll play in the now reset continuity of Mortal Kombat remains to be seen, but it’s fair to say he’ll probably be working behind the scenes of whatever events take place in the game.
The other secret character is Cyber Sub-Zero. Fans will remember that the three cyber-ninjas (Cyrax, Sektor, and Smoke) were members of the Lin Kuei, the same clan that Sub-Zero is a part of. A plot point of the third game was their attempts to capture Sub-Zero so that he could be transformed into a robot like them. It seems as though this character is Sub-Zero after they succeeded, a sort of “what-if” character.
The rest of the secret achievements bring up some interesting information. The four “Hidden Kombatant” achievements seem to indicate that the Arcade mode for this game will have ways to fight secret characters, much like the older arcade games did. The “Complet-ality” achievement asks players to perform one of each “-ality.” Does this mean the return of other “-alities” from older games, such as Babalities or Animalities? There were also the “hidden finishers” achievements, which could really mean just about anything. And then there’s Mileena’s third costume, simply titled “Best…Alternate…Ever!” One can only guess what that means.
Will we see the return of other “-alities”? What could the “hidden finishers” be? What will Cyber Sub-Zero look like? Just what is Mileena’s third costume?
Mortal Kombat is set to arrive April 19, 2011, for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
