With so many characters in the Mortal Kombat franchise, it can be a little tough to keep up with them all. While many of the classic characters from when the franchise began have stayed relevant, many of the characters introduced in the 3D era have been forgotten.

These characters might not play big roles in the overall story like Scorpion and Sub-Zero, but they do add interesting side stories. There are plenty of characters from this era that fans would love to see again. Here's a list of ten Mortal Kombat characters from the 3D era that need to make a full comeback.

10 Ashrah, A Demon Determined To Cleanse Her Soul

10 3D Mortal Kombat Characters Comeback Ashrah

A demon that once served Quan Chi, Ashrah escaped from him and his Brotherhood of Shadow in the original timeline. She then found a mythical sword known as the Kriss, which cleansed her demonic spirit with each demon she slayed. In reality, though, she was wielding a sword called "Datusha," a sword that makes the wielder believe they are serving a greater purpose to disguise that it's a vampire and demon-slaying weapon.

Ashrah was seeking out Noob Saibot to complete her spirit cleansing, but was defeated by Nitara during the events in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. If she were to return, she could continue her journey and go after Noob Saibot once more. She could prove to be a valuable ally, though her contempt for the Neatherrealm could be a problem.

9 Taven, Brother of Daegon

10 3D Mortal Kombat Characters Comeback Taven

A demi-god and half-brother to Rain, Taven was the main character of Konquest Mode in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. He and his brother, Daegon, were tasked with preventing Armageddon and were put to sleep until it was time. When he awoke, Daegon had already risen and killed their parents. Taven defeated his brother and lost to Blaze, an Elemental created by their mother.

He has been mentioned in some dialogue in Mortal Kombat 11 from Rain and Cetrion. Rain is aware the existence of his two half-brothers, but it's unknown if Taven and Daegon are aware of his. Bringing him back could add more to Rain's, story since it's clear that he believes he should be equal to Taven and Daegon.

8 Sareena, A Demon Freed From Quan Chi

10 3D Mortal Kombat Characters Comeback Sareena

Though she appeared in Mortal Kombat X, Sareena wasn't a playable character. A demon from the Neatherrealm, she was one of Quan Chi's elite lieutenants and assassins. She is also connected to Bi-Han (when he was Sub-Zero), as he helped free her from Quan Chi's corruption. Sareena betrayed Quan Chi to find her own path, and tried to persuade a revenant Kitana that she could help her as Bi-Han helped her.

Sareena proved a helpful ally during the events of Mortal Kombat X. A future appearance could expand her story when it comes to Bi-Han, and could also add a new storyline for Kuai Liang.

7 Daegon, The Center Of Family Conflict

10 3D Mortal Kombat Characters Comeback Daegon

Brother to Taven and half-brother to Rain, Daegon was put into a slumber along with Taven to wait for Blaze to summon them. He woke prematurely, causing mental unbalance and allowing Shinok to easily manipulate him. Daegon killed his parents and formed the Red Dragon Clan to find Blaze. While he hasn't appeared in any games since Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, he did appear in the Mortal Kombat X comic series.

Like Taven, Rain and Cetrion mentioned him in Mortal Kombat 11. Bringing back both Daegon and Taven could add some family conflict since Daegon wants Taven dead, Taven wants Daegon dead, and Rain wants both of them dead.

6 Li Mei Could Prove A Useful Ally

10 3D Mortal Kombat Characters Comeback Li Mei

Like Sareena, Li Mei appeared in Mortal Kombat X, but was not a playable character. She is an Outworld warrior whose village was enslaved by Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. After winning a tournament that they held, she hoped to win her village's freedom, but ended up losing her soul. Bo' Rai Cho eventually freed her and trained her to join the Forces of Light. During the events of Mortal Kombat X, Li Mei led her people to Earthrealm for asylum away from Kotal Kahn and Mileena's war.

Adding Li Mei into the roster could prove interesting, since she's been an innocent bystander and lived. She's crossed paths with Kano and served as an informant for the Special Forces. Now, she's living in Outworld under Kitana's rule and could prove useful in questioning her about it.

5 Havik, Harbinger Of Chaos

10 3D Mortal Kombat Characters Comeback Havik

A warrior from the Chaosrealm, Havik is a follower of Shinok and served him until Quan Chi approached him. His job is to spread chaos among the realms, and he is not strictly good or evil. He didn't play a huge role in the previous games, but played a major one in the Mortal Kombat X comic series. In these comics, he manipulated Reiko into thinking he could become a god.

Shang Tsung confirmed that Havik was alive in Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath. With his need to cause chaos, and Kitana ruling Outworld, Havik would make a great addition in the current games.

4 Nitara, The Vampiress

Nitara

Nitara is vampire from the realm known as Vaeternus, which was merged into Outworld. She remained neutral during the original timeline and didn't serve anyone; rather, she was looking for a way to separate Vaeternus and Outworld from each other. Because she couldn't get close to the orb merging the two, she employed Cyrax to help.

Her rivalry with Ashrah is also a point of interest. After learning that Ashrah was slaying her kind, Nitara fought and defeated her. This rivalry should continue if both of them make a comeback. Additionally, her a relationship with Erron Black (mentioned in Mortal Kombat 11) could also be further explored.

3 Reiko Could Be A Catalyst For Conflict

10 3D Mortal Kombat Characters Comeback Reiko

A general in Shao Kahn's army, Reiko played a major role in the Mortal Kombat X comics. He manipulated Mileena for his own gain, becoming her advisor and lover. He's also worked with Kotal Kahn, and helped him take over the island of the Kytinn. Quite a few characters might have a bone to pick with him.

Reiko used a possessed Raiden, Jacquei, and Cassie to help his ascension to godhood and planned on continuing Shao Kahn's vision of merging Outworld and Earthrealm together. He could help Shao Kahn take the throne back from Kitana, causing plenty of conflict along the way.

2 Kira's Story Deserves More Depth

10 3D Mortal Kombat Characters Comeback Kira

Kabal recruited this ruthless fighter to join the Black Dragon Clan. Since she only appeared in two games, Kira's story could easily expand a little more if she were to make a comeback.

Kira and Kobra were close partners, and the first new recruits into the Black Dragon Clan in the original timeline. In Mortal Kombat X, Erron Black reveals to Kano that he killed Kobra. If Kira makes a return, Erron could possibly have an angry Kira looking for him, seeking to exact her revenge,

1 Onaga Is Still A Threat From Beyond The Grave

10 3D Mortal Kombat Characters Comeback Onaga

One of the strongest characters in the Mortal Kombat franchise, Onaga was the ruler of Outworld until Shao Kahn defeated him. Since he did so with poison, most fans assume that even Shao Kahn feared fighting Onaga in combat.

With his immense physical strength, resistance to all forms of magic, and ability to raise the dead, he is a fearsome opponent. In the Mortal Kombat X comics, he is also said to have regenerative abilities and can grow his limbs back. Some characters still mention him in dialogue before fights, showing he's still a threat even when he's not around.
