The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S released earlier this week, and Mortal Kombat fans have been waiting to experience the gory fighting game on next-gen consoles. Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate releases today along with Kombat Pack 2, which features classic characters Mileena and Rain, and also brings iconic movie character Rambo to the roster.

Along with the release of Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, NetherRealm is now offering a free upgrade to the next-gen version of Ultimate for owners of the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Mortal Kombat 11. The official Mortal Kombat website lists free upgrades for MK11 and Kombat Pack 2 through both the Microsoft and PlayStation stores. However, players will still have to purchase any DLC if they do not own it yet.

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate will add visual improvements, 4K dynamic resolution, substantially lower load times, and will support cross-play and cross-gen gameplay. Players will be able to see every bloody detail, and will get to experience playing as fan-favorite Mileena in 4K resolution, a big step up from when she was originally introduced in 1993 as a part of the Mortal Kombat 2 roster.

Players do not need to be worried about losing all of their progress or character customization. Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate also supports cross-save, so all progress will carry over to the next-gen consoles. For players who do not own the title currently, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate on next-gen consoles is available for $60 USD and includes all previous DLCs and the Aftermath Expansion. However, the PS4 version of MK 11 Ultimate will not have physical copies available until January 2021, the Nintendo Switch version is only available digitally in the Americas, and the Stadia version will only be available digitally worldwide.

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate also comes with all premium skins and skin packs that were included in Kombat Pack 1 and the Aftermath expansion. There is a European-exclusive Kollectors Edition that also releases today and features a life-size Sub-Zero mask statue, a steel game case, a Mortal Kombat logo magnet, and an exclusive in-game Avalanche Sub-Zero skin.

With the release of Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate on next-gen consoles and rumors of a third Kombat Pack, it seems support for the title is not slowing down anytime soon. Many fans may be wondering about the possibility of an Injustice 3 or a new Mortal Kombat, but with the release of the next-gen upgrade, it appears any new title announcements may be far away. In the meantime, fans can still enjoy the new features included in the next-gen version of Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate.

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
