Last week, a QA tester leaked that a new Mortal Kombat game would be announced at The Game Awards 2018. And it turns out that leak was true, as Mortal Kombat 11 was announced at The Game Awards, complete with a stunning trailer that revealed the game's platforms, pre-order bonuses, and even its global release date.

As revealed at The Game Awards, Mortal Kombat 11 will launch on April 23 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. More information on it will be revealed on January 17 during a Community Reveal Event, and in the meantime, those that pre-order the upcoming fighting game will get Shao Khan as a playable character and access to the beta.

The trailer focuses on a cinematic battle between series mainstays Scorpion and Raiden, but more details have been revealed about the game outside of the trailer. As it turns out, Mortal Kombat 11 will feature Custom Character Variations that will give players "unprecedented control" when it comes to customizing the franchise's iconic fighters.

Speaking of fighters, we know that Mortal Kombat 11's roster will feature a mix of new and returning characters. Besides Scorpion and Raiden, it's hard to say who else will make the cut, but more characters will likely be revealed at the Community Reveal Event on January 17.

Mortal Kombat 11 will also be bringing a new graphics engine to the table, in addition to a cinematic story mode. Again, more details should come at the community event next month, and in the months leading up to the game's April release. In the meantime, Mortal Kombat fans can spend time analyzing the Game Awards 2018 trailer to see if they can find any hints about what the future of the franchise will have in store.

Mortal Kombat 11 launches on April 23, 2019 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
