Following the release of Shang Tsung and Nightwolf earlier this year, NetherRealm finally spilled the beans on the entire Figher Pack 1 roster in August with a brand new Mortal Kombat 11 trailer. Fans were certainly surprised by some of the additions, such as a very clean and young looking Joker, though the real shock came at the end when the launch dates for each character were revealed. Highly anticipated characters like Spawn won't be available until March 2020 at the earliest. The next DLC fighter, The Terminator, is only a few weeks away and NetherRealm Studios has released a new trailer to show off how he plays.
Next week, Mortal Kombat 11 adds the T-800 from Terminator Dark Fate to the character roster for early access players. Featuring the likeness of Arnold Schwarzenegger and his look from the upcoming movie, the latest trailer features a match between it and Jax, another character with his own set of cybernetics. Based on the intro dialogue, which ironically makes mention of Jax and his metal arms, Arnold was not brought in to voice the character.
Gameplay-wise, the T-800 offers everything one would expect from a Terminator. Plenty of guns at its disposal including the iconic shotgun, machine pistol, and gadgets like grenades. The character also has a teleport ability and plenty of grapple style moves as well. However, upon being defeated, the Terminator has access to a move that allows it to get up and shed its skin to just be the metal exoskeleton with super armor for a last chance, similar to the customizable move that D'Vorah can use where she turns into a bug upon death.
Naturally, the newly released trailer saves the best for last as the fatal blow shows the Terminator shotgun blast Jax in the face at point blank range with a few melee hits and a 'Get Over Here' for good measure. The fatality starts with Arnold blowing off Jax's kneecaps and then sending a legless version to the future where another terminator blows a hole through his chest with a laser.
While NetherRealm has been pretty open about the plans for upcoming DLC characters, including a lengthy release schedule, the developer appears to have much more in store to keep the game fresh between character releases. Just recently, a new Kombat Kast revealed a new Team Raid game mode, that's going to be added to the core game for free. Selecting the game mode reveals a new Tower, pitting a group of players against a tough boss character, with the opportunity to earn unique prizes and rewards. To mix things upa bit, the mode comes with special modifiers that active during the match and all three players can complete challenges as they're playing, though all three will need to complete it within a certain time limit.
Mortal Kombat 11 is currently available for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
