Mortal Kombat 11's next DLC fighter Spawn was given his first gameplay trailer during Final Kombat this weekend, and will be officially unleashed into the fighting genre staple on March 17, 2020. However, Warner Bros. has provided early access for certain individuals, leading to more discoveries about what the Image Comics character will bring to the battlefield.

One recent discovery was a killing move different than the Fatal Blow and Fatality showcased in Spawn's trailer, in which he skinned his Mortal Kombat 11 competitors before tearing the meat from their bones. Spawn's second Fatality instead has him hanging his opponent in their air with his cape before impaling them with his chains and exploding their body with sickly-green "Necroplasmic" energy.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog by NetherRealm Studios Cinematic Director Dominic Cianciolo from March 8, he discussed how Spawn's signature chains and cape were going to be the focus of his fighting style. However, Cianciolo said the Mortal Kombat 11 team also wanted to showcase other powers such as "conjuring demons and blasting opponents with Necroplasm," as many were fans of Todd McFarlane's comic book superhero coming into the fighter's development.

Ever since Dominique "SonicFox" McLean won Final Kombat 2020, their second victory at the yearly tournament in a row, the gaming world has been laser-focused on Spawn's impending implementation into Mortal Kombat 11. Some have pointed to the sheer amount of detail in his design as a huge selling point even amongst the other Kombat Pack DLC fighters, right down to Spawn's voice actor Keith David reprising his role from a 90s animated show on HBO.

Yet Mortal Kombat 11 has not escaped all of its less-than-stellar PR as of late. NetherRealm Studios was criticized for canceling the live audience at Final Kombat 2020 with just two day's notice, and their current fighting game will not be on the main stage at EVO 2020 despite only being a year old.

None of that has stopped fans from staying true to Mortal Kombat 11, however, especially following Spawn's reveal. Between gruesome Fatalities, lots of alternate skins, impressive cinematics, and unique intro dialogues with characters like Liu Kang, Spawn promises to live up to all the anticipation and hype leading into his arrival.

Mortal Kombat 11 is available on PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
