Spawn will soon be added to the ever-growing list of Mortal Kombat 11 fighters on March 17, 2020. Fans of the animated series were overjoyed when the MK11 Spawn voice actor was revealed, as Keith David originally voiced the famous hellspawn and now he's back to reprise the role as only he can.

No doubt excited about the opportunity, he offered further comment on returning to the character and who Spawn is in his view.

“I was thrilled. Like Goliath, Spawn was one of my favorite characters,” David told ComicBook.com. “I often have described them as sort of flip sides of the same coin.”

The comparison is an easy one, as David performed both characters with equal skill. The incredibly detailed Spawn MK11 render revealed as much attention to detail visually as David's considerable voice talents give audibly. But where Goliath is more clearly a hero, David went on to discuss Spawn’s intentions.

“You know, Spawn to me it was like Darth Vader making his way back to the forest in spite of himself,” David said. “So I just love the journey that Spawn is on. Even though he is the Hellspawn, he winds up doing more good than evil. You know, he's not evil at all. I mean, really. He winds up doing ... working for the ultimate good of most of us. He only seems to strike out at the enemies of the people, not the ... He doesn't attack good people or people who do good things. He only goes after people who do bad things.”

Getting Keith David to voice the character is just one part in the work going into the character. Todd McFarlane revealed Spawn info at San Diego Comic Con 2019, speaking on the need for Mortal Kombat 11 fans to love the character and enjoy playing him. To that end, McFarlane insisted on the studio going crazy with the moves and abilities. And there's a lot to work with.

Those familiar with Spawn may already be aware of his sentient suit and hellish powers, but they may not be aware that during his battles fending off both Heaven and Hell, a power equal to both granted Spawn additional powers which seemed to give him control over the elements, though there's no telling just yet if this will be included in his lore and move-list for MK11.

Spawn will be the last of the Kombat Pack 1 fighters to be released and though the release dates are staggered out to 2020, there is still a lot of variety available in MK11’s fighter list. Also, though the characters for Kombat Pack 1 will be staggered, it gives players something to look forward to with time to practice each character before the next one releases. And if there’s nothing in Kombat Pack 1 that interests a player, there’s always Kombat Pack 2.
