NetherRealm Studios has finally revealed gameplay for the forthcoming Mortal Kombat 11 DLC character, Sindel. Fans have been waiting for some time for her release, and based on initial receptions to this trailer, it doesn't seem like they'll be disappointed. This is because Sindel comes with an impressive repertoire of moves and mechanics that fans are ready to get their hands on, even those who are slightly disappointed about the Sindel retcon.

For those not in the know, NetherRealm Studios decided to slightly change Sindel's background for Mortal Kombat 11. Instead of being the Queen of Edenia who, distraught over the plight of her people, the death of her husband, and Shao Kahn's 'adoption' of her daughter, took her own life rather than be witness to such evil (if only to be later resurrected to commit terrible atrocities), Sindel betrayed her husband and her people. She willingly became the Queen of Shao Kahn in this timeline in order to protect her power and wealth. This manifests in the trailer, as she is shown in fight after fight.

Sindel's Gameplay Style

Overall, Sindel's gameplay appears to be a rather balance character in terms of reach and ability. She demonstrates several of her close-up combos that highlight her ability in hand-to-hand combat, but she also has two other advantages in Mortal Kombat 11: her hair and her spear-like weapon. The first can be used to grab, toss, and draw near enemies who are standing about midrange. Several of her combos and special moves like her Fatal Blow and Sindel's first fatality utilize this detail about her character.

The spear works in a similar manner, both used in melee combos but also as a weapon with a decent reach itself. MK11 players will find that she also appears to be on the speedy side, easily stringing together combos at both of the aforementioned ranges, and doing so in a manner that could easily turn the tide into a player's favor. How she plays into the overall meta remains to be seen, but it wouldn't be surprising to see her moved to the top because of these details. In other words, expect to see a lot of Sindel during the on-going Mortal Kombat 11 Season of Sorcery.

Sindel's Ghost

Sindel's Ghost is another mechanic showcased for the character, and while the full extent of this Banshee-like being remains to be seen, it does appear like something that will be used often and could set her apart. It appears most of her magic-like abilities are powered by this Banshee, but it comes complete with some of its own attacks.

One showcased in the trailer is a type of forward project that slams the Banshee into Sindel's opponent, and she has a ton of long range purple aura blasts that are seemingly powered by the Banshee. In some regards, it seems that this Banshee offers this character more balance and long ranged attacks. One more detail noticed in the trailer is that it seems to power up Sindel's screams. While this hasn't been confirmed, there is a moment where one of Sindel's screams has a wider blast than others, at which time her ghost is visible.

Sindel's Fatal Blow and Fatality

While her quick and ranged attacks will keep an opponent in Mortal Kombat 11 under control, allowing Sindel to dominate the field, her biggest damage deal may prove to be her Fatal Blow. In the trailer, she is shown to whip someone in with her hair to impale them with her spear before flying into the air and cracking the opponent like a whip. She then throws them to the ground, throws her spear into their chest, and lands with her heels going into the opponent's eyes.

For Sindel's fatality, she is shown to grab an enemy with her hair, and keep them airborne, proceeds to scream so loudly and violently that it flays them alive, ripping off a majority of their skin. To add more injury to already devastating injury, she then lets loose a final burst that blows the Mortal Kombat 11 fighter into bits.

Overall, it's clear to see why fan reception to this MK11 trailer has been positive, which will likely play a factor in her appearances one she releases. Either way, more of this will be clear when she does release on November 26, complete with a myriad of other cosmetic bonuses like the Gothic Horror Pack and Klassic Cassie Cage skin as well.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
