Mortal Kombat 11, which is NetherRealm's latest installment to the long-standing fighting franchise, is available now on PC and consoles. The game has received mostly positive reviews, but some reviewers highlighted issues such as Mortal Kombat 11's "grindy" progression system. Now, several players who are eager to play the recently released title report that they are unable to access the game due to server issues.

As of the moment, there is still no official confirmation from NetherRealm nor its publisher, Warner Bros. Interactive Studio about a worldwide server outage. While it appears that servers are currently working for the majority of people, several players reported on various forums and social media channels that whenever they try to play the game, an error message would pop up saying, "There was an error contacting the Mortal Kombat server."

As the case with many multiplayer games, and given that Mortal Kombat 11 has just been released worldwide except in Indonesia less than 24 hours ago, server errors are expected given that there may be too many early adopters trying to gain access at once. Currently, reports differ from player to player with some saying that they are experiencing server lags, while others are not able to connect at all.

Given that the game's developer still hasn't responded to the outage reports as of this writing, it appears that the server problems some players are experiencing are isolated cases. However, players must remember that unlike NetherRealm's other fighting games such as Injustice 2, which has most of its content accessible offline, it has been revealed in a now-deleted tweet that Mortal Kombat 11 would require a constant internet connection to earn XP and have access to some of its features.

Given this, players are advised to double check their internet connection first to confirm. If after a reset of the gaming platform and router still results in an error, then it is possible that servers are down on a specific area or platform. Unfortunately, players who are unable to gain access to MK11's servers, won't be able to do anything about it until NetherRealm pinpoints the cause of the outage and provide a solution to the problem.

Mortal Kombat 11 is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
