When it comes to professional fighting game tournaments, matches sometimes end with "pop offs," where the victor jumps up and starts yelling. Pop offs are seen as acceptable and a legitimate way to relieve tension in the professional fighting game community, with many feeling that they add to the atmosphere of events. However, sometimes pop offs may go too far and get a little bit too personal, like the pop off that happened after the Mortal Kombat 11 pro match between Brad "Scar" Vaughn and Leif "Buffalo" Boisvert at the CEO fighting game tournament in Florida.

At the end of the match, Buffalo's Sub-Zero defeated Scar's Scorpion. Buffalo then started yelling in Scar's face, with the two competitors flipping each other off before too long. While this kind of aggression is not necessarily uncommon when it comes to professional fighting game tournaments, some may still have been confused as to why this pop off was particularly intense.

As it turns out, there is legitimate animosity between Buffalo and Scar, stemming from a tweet Scar made earlier this month. In a tournament, Buffalo beat fellow pro player ninjakilla, which Scar attributed to the tournament's first to two wins rule. Buffalo took offense to the implication that he wouldn't have beaten ninjakilla under other circumstances, which is why he was so emotional following his Mortal Kombat 11 victory over Scar.

The intense pop off between Scar and Buffalo wasn't the only newsworthy thing to come out from the CEO fighting game tournament in Florida. The event also played host to AEW Fyter Fest, a professional wrestling show that incorporated elements of fighting games. This included competitors using moves like the Hadouken, as well as Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks cosplaying as Street Fighter characters.

CEO boss Alex Jebailey even got in on the action at AEW Fyter Fest. In his Hardcore Match with Michael Nakazawa, Jebailey used a fight stick as a weapon, but ended up getting strangled with a GameCube controller for his trouble.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
