Last week, Mortal Kombat 11 Patch 1.07 brought an array of changes to NetherRealm Studios’ newest fighting game. Amongst the biggest of the changes made by MK11 Patch 1.07 were those that focused on character balance, and indeed almost every fighter on the roster received tweaks in one form or another. While many of the adjustments made by the Mortal Kombat 11 balance patch were quite minor, a handful of the characters on the MK11 roster received some notable buffs with Patch 1.07.
Perhaps the biggest winner of the recent Mortal Kombat 11 character balance patch is D’Vorah, a fighter that has been near the bottom of many players’ MK11 tier lists ever since the game’s release back in April. While it was certainly possible to win matches with D’Vorah prior to the latest Mortal Kombat 11 patch, some fans indicated that she was underpowered, and it appears that NetherRealm Studios agreed with that sentiment.
Indeed, D’Vorah has received a long list of improvements with MK11 Patch 1.07, and while it remains to be seen if these tweaks are significant enough to push her to the top tiers, she has certainly become a more viable pick. Players will now find that many of D’Vorah’s abilities, such as Black Widow and Bug Bash, have fewer frames of startup or recovery, that her Fireflies have improved functionality, and that she has been given some entirely new options.
Since the release of Mortal Kombat 11, players have been praising another of the game’s fighters, Frost, for her satisfying gameplay. However, Frost has never quite made it to the head of the pack when it comes to relative power level, and she is frequently found alongside D’Vorah near the bottom of many Mortal Kombat 11 tier lists.
That said, the MK11 character balance patch may change all of that, as abilities like Frost’s Headbutt, Freezer Burn, and Microburst all startup or recover faster after this recent update. For players that have found this unlockable Mortal Kombat 11 character fun but underwhelming over the last several months, now may be the perfect time to take her into battle again, as she is definitely one of the patch’s biggest winners.
While some players have already found quite a bit of success with Cetrion, as demonstrated recently with her appearance in the MK11 Grand Finals at EVO 2019, this fighter has received a number of buffs in Mortal Kombat 11 Patch 1.07. More specifically, a couple of Cetrion’s abilities now recover more quickly, and she also has a brand new ability, Conflux of Elements, as well as a new Krushing Bow attached to her Shattering Boulder.
As stated, Cetrion’s ability to close out matches has already been seen in the months prior to this MK11 balance patch. As such, it is reasonable to expect that these improvements could push Cetrion to the level of some of the game’s most powerful fighters. It will be particularly interesting to see what she is capable of in the hands of those that have already established a reputation with this Mortal Kombat 11 character.
Kollector received a litany of changes with Mortal Kombat Patch 1.07, and while a few of these tweaks might be seen as slight nerfs, this fighter has definitely come out ahead in the patch. Faster startups and recoveries, more active frames, and increased damage scaling are the reoccurring themes of Kollector’s improvements, and he is most certainly in a better position now that this update has occurred.
Additionally, a number of bugs that have been affecting Kollector in Mortal Kombat 11 have been squashed, including one that impacted his Shotel Fury ability in particular. Thus, players that have been down on this MK11 character since release may just be surprised by what Kollector has to offer post-patch.
Shao Kahn & Kotal Kahn
The buffs that have come to Shao and Kotal Kahn with MK Patch 1.07 are similar in their effect, and the two fighters have been grouped together here as a result. Namely, both have received increased health points, with Shao now having 1,050 health and Kotal having 1,100. Furthermore, both of the Kahns now have significantly faster startups and recoveries on a number of their abilities, which should push these fighters towards being more competitive.
Indeed, with many of the best characters in Mortal Kombat 11 having a combination of powerful zoning tools and speed at their disposal, Kotal Kahn and Shao Kahn in MK11 have frequently struggled in a number of matchups. Certainly, the changes that have come with Patch 1.07 will improve the balance of these bouts, but it remains to be seen by exactly how much.
While it is simply too soon to assemble an accurate Mortal Kombat 11 Patch 1.07 tier list, it is safe to say that the fighters listed here are some of the biggest winners from the update. Additionally, a number of other characters have been buffed in this MK11 balance patch as well, though not as significantly as the likes of D’Vorah, Frost, and friends. For those that have been looking for a shakeup in the game, these buffs are likely to be appreciated, and it is definitely an exciting time to be a Mortal Kombat 11 player.
Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version in development.
