Mortal Kombat 11 is now available worldwide, offering up one of the franchise's most impressive fighting game rosters ever. Yet as robust as the roster is, NetherRealm wasn't able to make every possible character available at launch. Some Mortal Kombat favorites, like Reptile and Sindel, are missing altogether. Others, including Cyrax, Sektor, and new character Kronika are already in the game but are unplayable. At least, they were unplayable up until Mortal Kombat 11 modders got ahold of the game.

Modder Lord Dragu has already created a mod to unlock Mortal Kombat 11's unplayable characters. The mod unlocks Kronika, Cyrax, and Sektor as playable in Mortal Kombat 11, though it's still in its relatively early stages. Since all three characters are already in-game, albeit only as CPU opponents, they're as playable as any other character in the game.

Playable doesn't necessarily mean complete or balanced, however. While Kronika, Cyrax, and Sektor can be unlocked via the Mortal Kombat 11 mod, and while they do have all of their unique abilities and moves, they may lack other moves, Fatal Blows, or Fatalities. Or, in Kronika's case, she may have a fatality but it has yet to be mapped into her kit in the mod.

As for balance, it's probably understandable why Kronika, the Keeper of Time, isn't available in-game just yet. As a boss character, she's empowered to be a little more dominant than would be fair in Mortal Kombat 11. It's possible that with time the mods will evolve to make each character a more fully-fleshed out and complete pick, but for the time being the mods are just for fun.

As with any game, mods are designed to fill out or expand on aspects of the game. Mortal Kombat 11 chose to make Kronika, Cyrax, and Sektor unplayable despite arguably being in a playable state. Whether that's because NetherRealm didn't have the time to finish them for launch or that it wants to instead offer them as post-launch DLC isn't clear. But in the meantime, modders will make do where NetherRealm wasn't able.

Mortal Kombat 11 is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
