Mortal Kombat 11 Might Not Have Mileena and Fans Aren't Happy [UPDATE]

mortal kombat 11 might not have mileena and fans aren't happy

Update 4/23: Now that Mortal Kombat 11 is out, we know that Mileena is not part of the roster. And if the leaked DLC characters are any indication, it seems as though she won't be added to the game in the future either. Original story follows.

Ever since Mileena's first appearance in Mortal Kombat 2, she has persisted as one of the franchise's most popular characters, appearing as a playable fighter in almost every game in the series since. Despite Mileena's popularity, it doesn't appear as though she will be appearing in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 11 and some fans aren't happy about it.

In the most recent Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Kast, fans got a look at Kitana's Fatality and move=set. Some noticed one of Kitana's variations borrows from Mileena's move-set, including her signature sai weapons and teleport dropkick, which many have taken as a sign that Mileena won't be in Mortal Kombat 11. And while NetherRealm has yet to officially reveal whether or not Mileena will be in Mortal Kombat 11, it certainly seems that is the case.

Fans have expressed their disappointment about Mileena probably not being in Mortal Kombat 11 on Twitter, Facebook, and various gaming forums. Some have even said that they will be canceling their Mortal Kombat 11 pre-order over Mileena not being in the game. But while some fans may be disappointed that Mileena is apparently not in Mortal Kombat 11, there is actually a storyline reason that explains her absence. Please note that spoilers for Mortal Kombat X will follow.

The likely reason why Mileena is not in Mortal Kombat 11 is because she was killed off in Mortal Kombat X. In the Mortal Kombat X story mode, Kotal Kahn orders Mileena's death, and she is then murdered by D'Vorah, who releases flesh-eating parasites on her face in one of the game's most graphic scenes.

Even though Mileena is dead, Mortal Kombat 11 fans may argue that's not a good enough reason to keep her out of the game. After all, other dead characters are appearing in Mortal Kombat 11 as playable fighters thanks to the game's time-traveling gimmick, and so there are story reasons why Mileena could still be in the game despite dying in MKX.

And at this point, it's actually still possible that Mileena will be in Mortal Kombat 11. At the time of this writing, her absence hasn't officially been confirmed, so fans of the deadly assassin shouldn't lose all hope just yet.

Mortal Kombat 11 launches on April 23 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
