Mortal Kombat 11 will soon see the release of the final DLC character for its first Kombat Pack in the form of comic book character Spawn. Nothing has been announced for Mortal Kombat 11 after the Spawn DLC release date of March 17, but fans shouldn't worry about NetherRealm abandoning the game. On the contrary, game director Ed Boon has said that there will be even more surprises in store for MK11 fans coming up.

Boon made these comments at Final Kombat 2020. Shortly after revealing the Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge red band trailer, Boon said, "There is a lot more to come with Mortal Kombat as well. This isn't the end of the whole support for this game. We've got a lot of surprises in store." However, Boon stopped short of offering more details about what these "surprises" may entail for Mortal Kombat 11.

It seems the most obvious answer is that a Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack 2 is on the way. Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack 2 has been rumored for quite some time, with dataminers even finding evidence of unreleased characters in the game. It's quite possible that these characters will be a part of a Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack 2, assuming that one is in fact in development.

Some of the datamined Mortal Kombat 11 DLC characters include Evil Dead's Ash, Sheeva, and Fujin. It's entirely possible that these characters will be coming to Mortal Kombat 11 as future DLC, but nothing has been confirmed. It's also possible that these characters were planned for the first Kombat Pack and were scrapped for whatever reason, so fans should keep that in mind as well.

In the meantime, some fans may be more curious about what NetherRealm Studios will be doing after it's done supporting Mortal Kombat 11. The prevailing theory is that NetherRealm is making Injustice 3 next, though nothing official has been announced. It would certainly fit NetherRealm's pattern, but with next-generation consoles coming out within the next year or so, maybe NetherRealm will want to produce a next-gen Mortal Kombat first instead.

Fans should keep an eye on the various social media pages for both Ed Boon and the Mortal Kombat franchise for more information.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
