Ever since its first official gameplay trailer earlier this month, we've been treated to a nice and steady run of new information for the long awaited Mortal Kombat 11. Developer NetherRealm Studios had planned to host a livestream this week, titled the Kombat Kast, which would have no doubt shown off even more new details for the fighting game but the current weather conditions have unfortunately delayed it.

The Mortal Kombat 11 developer's studio is based in Chicago, which is experiencing what has been described as a Polar Vortex, having been overrun by snow and the temperature expected to potentially drop to as low as -60 F with windchill. The National Weather Service has even stated said temperatures could cause frostbite on exposed skin in less than five minutes.

With words such as "life-threatening" being dropped and people even being advised to avoid taking deep breaths and minimize talking, it's no surprise to see NetherRealm postpone the stream so participants don't have to risk heading outside in such conditions. Community Manager Tyler Landsdown took to Twitter to confirm that the delay is a precautionary measure, stating "I want the stream to be the best it can be, and if someone can't get there, well, that's not as fun!"

Fortunately, fans eager to learn more about the game won't have to wait that much longer, as NetherRealm have already nailed down a new date to hold the stream. It will now take place next week on February 5th at 3pm CST.

We can probably expect to see at least one new character be confirmed for the title. Currently, only nine characters have been announced (including the pre-order bonus Shao Kahn), and with time travel being a major element of the game's narrative, pretty much anybody from the series' history could make an appearance. Fan-favorite Reptile has already been leaked and the likes of Johnny Cage and his daughter Cassie have been teased to return.

It's unlikely that we'll see Shaggy be confirmed, though. Yes, the same Shaggy from Scooby-Doo has become a hotly requested character, with a petition with at least 100,000 signatures asking he be included. While the Scooby-Doo license is owned by Warner Bros. - the company publishing Mortal Kombat - the chances of a children's cartoon character appearing in a title as violent as Mortal Kombat 11 is highly unlikely.

Mortal Kombat 11 will release on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Switch on April 23rd.
