Mortal Kombat 11 director Ed Boon likes to tease fans on Twitter by hinting at characters that may or may not wind up in the final game. For example, he recently responded to a fan who wants Pennywise the Dancing Clown in Mortal Kombat 11, and he has made similar teases for a number of other potential characters in the past. However, his latest tease is for a character who may legitimately be coming to the game, and that's infamous DC Comics villain The Joker.

In a recent tweet, Boon wrote some lyrics from the song "Joker" by Steve Miller Band. Boon left out the "space" bit of the song, but it's still clear that he is writing lyrics for "Joker." Understandably, many have taken this is a direct tease for Joker coming to Mortal Kombat 11, with a followup tweet by Netherrealm Studios Community Manager Tyler Lansdown adding even more fuel to the fire.

Posting in Ed Boon's "Joker" thread, Lansdown responded to the lyrics by saying, "What a joker." It's quite possible that Boon and Lansdown are just teasing fans, but it's worth pointing out that this is far from the first time we've heard that The Joker could be added to Mortal Kombat 11's roster.

Thanks to datamining efforts, we already know that files for Joker exist in Mortal Kombat 11 in some capacity. It was that same datamine that leaked other Mortal Kombat 11 DLC characters that turned out to be real, including the likes of Spawn, Sindle, and Nightwolf, so it's easy to believe that the rest of the leaked characters could be accurate as well.

However, the first Kombat Pack for Mortal Kombat 11 is supposed to only have two more guest fighters, and there's more evidence that those two characters will be Ash Williams from Evil Dead and The Terminator instead of The Joker. Considering this, it's possible The Joker will be released as part of Kombat Pack 2, or maybe even as a completely separate, special character.

Until Netherrealm officially announces The Joker, though, fans will just have to keep analyzing Boon's Twitter feed for clues.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
