Excitement for the Joker, both the film and the character, is at an all-time high. Not only did The Joker receive a record 11 nominations at the Academy Awards, but fans of the character are spreading his influence across the internet. It's perhaps no coincidence that Mortal Kombat 11 is prime to release the Joker as a DLC character amid this surge in Joker popularity. Fans can't wait to hear more information about the DLC fighter, and it seems Mortal Kombat 11 creative director Ed Boon is about ready to deliver.

In a post to Twitter, Boon provided Mortal Kombat 11 and Joker fans alike an apt teaser. A single image depicting a screen covered in blood, with the Joker's face peeking out through a small bloodless space, was attached to the tweet. Along with the image, Boon added a message that should be exactly what fans have been waiting for. The message reads, "Joker game-play trailer koming soon. #Mortal Kombat11 #BloodyGoodTime."

Boon is teasing the very first gameplay trailer that will feature the Joker in-game. NetherRealm has previously put out two teaser trailer for the Joker, but neither featured any action. The first came from The Game Awards 2019 and featured a fight introduction conversation between the Joker and Harley Quinn. The second was a New Year's Day teaser with some of the Joker's laughter and various Joker graffiti painted on what looked to be a prison wall. "See you soon, kiddos!" was the message at the end of the trailer.

The Joker's release date as a DLC character has been known since The Game Awards 2019 teaser was released. During the trailer, the Joker was confirmed to launch on January 28. No delays have been announced since, so that seems to still be NetherRealm's plan. With less than two weeks until Joker launches, Boon teasing a gameplay trailer to be released over the coming week seems fitting. Mortal Kombat 11 fans will get to see the Joker in action before the character's launched.

The Joker is the second-to-last DLC character for Mortal Kombat 11 announced for the game's post-launch Kombat Pack. Following the Joker, there's just one premium DLC character left to put out: Spawn. Fans are all hopeful that there will be a Kombat Pack 2 that will add even more fighters to Mortal Kombat 11, but NetherRealm could have other ideas. Some leaks do hint at other fighters coming in the future, but for all anyone knows NetherRealm may already be working on its next fighting game. Stay tuned for more information in the months to come.

Mortal Kombat 11 is available now on Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
