Mortal Kombat 11 made waves when it was announced that current WWE superstar Ronda Rousey would be providing the voice of Sonya Blade in the upcoming fighting game. Besides Rousey, a number of other WWE and professional wrestling personalities were on hand for the Mortal Kombat 11 reveal event in January, and while John Cena wasn't present, a new rumor suggests that he could very well be featured in the new game.

The rumors started when John Cena posted a picture of Mortal Kombat character Stryker on his Instagram page without any context or explanation, as is typical of the former WWE Champion. This has sparked speculation that Cena may be playing the character in Mortal Kombat 11, a notion that has been bolstered by the precedent of Ronda Rousey being involved with the project.

Of course, this is far from an official confirmation that John Cena is coming to the Mortal Kombat 11 roster as Stryker. After all, Stryker hasn't even been confirmed for Mortal Kombat 11's roster, so it's possible that the character won't even be in the game, let alone voiced by John Cena.

If John Cena did appear in Mortal Kombat 11 as Stryker, it wouldn't be a big surprise, however. Cena has had some ties to the gaming industry over the years, appearing in commercials for the Switch and having grown up playing the NES. Cena is also on tap to star as Duke Nukem in an upcoming film adaptation of the controversial first-person shooter series. Cena is clearly into gaming, and it seems like starring in Mortal Kombat 11 would be something he would be excited about.

Then again, Cena's career is rather busy right now, so it's tough to say if he would have time to voice Stryker in Mortal Kombat 11. His return to WWE has been put on hold due to an injury, but he has been appearing in a variety of Hollywood films, including the critically-acclaimed Transformers spinoff Bumblebee.

With just a couple of months to go until Mortal Kombat 11's launch, we should learn definitively whether John Cena is actually going to appear in the game or not in the coming weeks.

Mortal Kombat 11 launches April 23 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
