Several weeks ago, the Mortal Kombat 11 trophies for PS4 leaked and revealed a number of details about NetherRealm Studios' imminently releasing fighting game. One such detail was that players would be able to "show Mercy" in Mortal Kombat 11, and they would, in fact, receive a trophy for doing so. Now, with the Mortal Kombat 11 available, there is definitive confirmation on exactly what this means and how it is done.

To show an opponent Mercy in Mortal Kombat 11, a player must first get said opponent to the point where a finishing move can be executed upon them — for complete clarity, this is when the words "Finish Him/Her" have flashed on the screen. At this point, the player must simply position themselves between mid and far distance from the incapacitated opponent and enter the following inputs: hold L2, press D, D, D, let go of L2.

When properly entered, the word "Mercy" will appear on the screen and something a bit odd will occur. Specifically, the formerly defeated opponent will come back to life with a bit of health, and the fight will continue.

At this point, the exact reason why someone might show Mercy in Mortal Kombat 11 is not known. It may simply be a method for taunting a demoralized opponent who saw a grizzly Mortal Kombat 11 fatality in their imminent future, but there are other options as well.

Namely, showing an opponent Mercy could function to setup an alternative finishing move, such as an Animality. This is exactly what Mercy did in Mortal Kombat 3, where an Animality could only be executed after Mercy had been shown, and certainly many fans would love to see it do something similar in this new game.

Of course, this is purely speculative at this time. However, as more players get their hands on the Mortal Kombat 11 characters, the mystery of Mercy is sure to be quickly solved, if there is a mystery to solve at all.

The build to the Mortal Kombat 11 release date has been characterized by leaks. Details on the Mortal Kombat 11 Mercy finisher are just the latest to emerge from these leaks, and for those looking to earn a trophy, it appears it will be quite a simple endeavor.

Mortal Kombat 11 will launch on April 23 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
