With several months left until the launch of Mortal Kombat 11, NetherRealm Studios still has plenty of character reveals to make. But while the studio would love to keep to its strict schedule, there are bound to be leaks.

Today, for example, hopeful Mortal Kombat 11 fans saw the Steam achievements for the game update and with them came some clues about returning characters. Specifically, it seems that Erron Black is making his return for MK11 and there is a possibility that Rain will make an appearance as well.

In total, 12 different Steam achievements were added to the backend for Mortal Kombat 11. Outside of two for completing the tutorial, the rest focus on completing 2 fatalities with different members of the Mortal Kombat 11 roster. Many of the revealed characters are there, from Sonya Blade to Baraka, but only the first three letters of their name are present.

Within those achievements, there is one entry that does not connect with any of the known Mortal Kombat 11 fighters: “Err.” It’s certainly possible that this could be a new character whose name begins with “Err,” but most assume that this is confirmation that Erron Black is reprising his role from Mortal Kombat X.

The Old West gunslinger became somewhat of an unofficial mascot for Mortal Kombat X, starring in the game’s digital comic ahead of its release, so his return for MK 11 makes sense. Whether his role will be as prominent in the Mortal Kombat 11 story, however, is yet to be determined.

erron black leak

While the Erron Black leak is hard to debate, there is some speculation regarding a different steam achievement entry that features “RAI.” Most assume that this is tied to Raiden, who NetherRealm already revealed is returning to the game, but there are some who are holding out hope that this achievement is actually tied to Rain.

Throughout the lifespan of Mortal Kombat X, fans held out hope that Rain would be a playable fighter - they even created Rain mods - but NetherRealm Studios never granted their wish. It was an odd decision considering Rain appears in the MKX story, but perhaps NR felt the ninja quota was filled on that game.

Either way, we wouldn’t put too much stock in Rain appearing based on this leak - it’s most likely Raiden that the achievement is referencing. Erron Black, on the other hand, seems like a lock for the Mortal Kombat 11 roster.

Mortal Kombat 11 releases April 23, 2019 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
