NetherRealm Studios recently pulled the curtain back on Mortal Kombat 11's DLC fighter lineup, confirming Spawn as a guest character in the process. We know that there are two more guest fighters for Mortal Kombat 11 that are coming as part of Kombat Pack 1, but NetherRealm has yet to reveal them. However, a new rumor making the rounds suggests that the next guest DLC fighter in Mortal Kombat 11 is none other than Doom Slayer from the 2016 Doom reboot.

Doom Slayer takes the role of Doomguy from past Doom games, and is effectively the same character. He has a tendency to use chainsaws to cut up demons, and that fact combined with one of the new Doom Eternal trailers at E3 2019 and the MK11 DLC trailer is why some people think Doom Slayer is an upcoming guest fighter in Mortal Kombat 11.

At the end of the Mortal Kombat 11 DLC trailer, we hear a chainsaw revving and blood splattering across the screen. Many initially took this as a tease that Ash Williams from Evil Dead would be coming to the game, despite Bruce Campbell denying as much on Twitter just weeks earlier. Campbell then seemed to contradict himself and added fuel to the fire by tweeting about the MK11 DLC, once again leading people to believe that Ash could be coming to Mortal Kombat 11.

And that has been the running theory since, but the Doom Eternal trailer at E3 2019 has some fans thinking a different way. In the Doom Eternal's BattleMode multiplayer, players can hear the famous Mortal Kombat announcer. This cameo combined with the fact that Doom Slayer uses a chainsaw quite a bit is why some people now think that he may come to Mortal Kombat 11 instead of Ash.

There's no denying that Doom Slayer would fit well in the Mortal Kombat 11 universe, considering the ultra-violent nature of his own game, but such a crossover seems like it would have benefited from a big E3 reveal. It seems like if there was a time to announce Doom Slayer for Mortal Kombat 11, it would have been shortly after the Mortal Kombat announcer was heard in the Doom Eternal trailer. Then again, maybe Bethesda didn't want a Doom Slayer MK11 appearance to overshadow Doom Eternal itself.

Whether the next Mortal Kombat 11 DLC fighter to be revealed is Doom Slayer, Evil Dead's Ash Williams, or someone else entirely remains to be seen. Fans of the fighting game will just have to stay tuned for more information.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version in development.
